So...*

I've finally moved into my apartment enough to have my computer up. That took, what, two days? Two and a half if you count the day of moving. Of course, for now I have to ferry things back and forth from work on a li'l ol' floppy disk, until I can bribe Shaw into giving me Intarwebs at home.** There is food in the pantry and sheets on my bed so really, what else do I need? Hmm, might be useful to get the clothes out of my suitcases ... and another bookshelf would be dandy.

I'm celebrating by finally cracking open the Azkaban book-on-CD I got for Christmas. After the initial 'Yeep! Stephen Fry is in my living room!' it's pretty darn good. Significantly better than Jim Dale's. I'm sure I'll get a hundred comments from adamant Jim Dale fans but I cannot stand his reading of the books.

Anyway, a big big THANK YOU to everyone who helped move me in – you all ran away before I could feed you so I'll have you all over for pizza and movies when everything's all put away and stuff. Fun times will be had by all. Yeah. Dream On, Silly Dreamer, anyone? Heh heh heh, how to squash the soul of a budding animator. Le sigh.

I am disconnected and rambly. Time to save to disk.

*It would be interesting to count what proportion of LiveJournal entries start with an arbitrary 'so' ... seconded, probably, by 'well.'
**For very nearly the sole purpose of being able to listen to Radio 4 at home ... all the time . HELP I AM A RADIO NERD HELP HELP.

heee. Stephen Fry lives inside a tiny box with Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, Christopher Lee, and both Dursleys in MY living room!

Are Ian Richardson, Celia Imrie, and John Sessions in that box, too?

Oh, lovely parquet floor.

I am jealous!

Congrats on your new place!

Upon glancing at this picture, something struck me as odd. I soon figured out what it was. We both have the same chair, the same exact desk, hardwood floors, and the keyboard tilted to one side of the pull-out. Like, woah...

Whoooaaaa....

(I tilk the keyboard so that the Wacom tablet will fit in the drawer ... how 'bout you?)

No, I tilt the keyboard so when I swivel to the side to throw my legs over the bottom left door, I'm sitting and typing comfortably. My Wacom tablet is to the right of the monitor.

OK, not to be Queen of the Audiobook Related Comments, but Stephen Fry reading Harry Potter is possibly the greatest thing to happen to audiobooks ever. My friends are sick to death of me telling them how I wake up to his dulcet tones. I've heard Jim Dale and it just isn't right. I wonder why they got him to redo it for the US, because it's not as if he is American and Stephen Fry is a genius.

Oh, and I'm glad you moved in ok.:)

They had to do a different version for the American books because of the 'translation' -- and in the first couple of books, there's a change on nearly every page so you can't just get retakes for it, you've got to rerecord the whole thing. They probably picked a British actor so that they'd keep the 'flavour' and he could do the accents right, but ... nyerh. Maybe Mr Dale was doing a show on Broadway at the time and the audio book producer at Scholastic ran into him somewhere in New York and said 'You're British! You're an actor! Can you do the Harry Potter audio books?'

I do love the image of a slightly flustered looking man running through Broadway looking for anyone with a British accent. And yeah, I forgot all the changes they made...we seem to manage with US TV shows, but there you go.

Well, it's common practise in American media to underestimate the intelligence of your audience. }: P Though I suppose to some extent they have a point ... And the US exports so much of its culture and language that it's easier for other people to understand them than for them to understand other people.

I have the Jim Dale GoF...a long-ago birthday present, which led to much laughter (Particularly Dale's go at Sirius saying "Chickeeeeen!" which remains an inside joke w/ friends till this day) and attempts at doing our own Sorceror's Stone read via Karaoke Machine. Which crashed and burned somewhere along Diagon Alley, when the girl doing Ollivander said "Fetus Feathers" as a slip of the tongue, and we were too doubled over to continue.

"Dream On, Silly Dreamer, anyone?" You have a copy? I would actually really like to see it and watch my soul get sucked out into oblivion. I've also wanted to see the one that was made during the making of "The emperors’ new groove". Was it stings wife that was involved in the making of it? I can't remember, or what it was called...

The Sweatbox – I haven't seen that. As far as I know it hasn't been released on DVD (are They 'hushing it up'?) but it would be interesting. Actually, I was surprised how little DOSD made me want to flush myself down a toilet, considering my feelings when the actual events were taking place... Maybe it's because Pixar's taken over and there is the slight glimmer of that greatest of all treasures which is hope.

Stephen Fry... so brilliant. His voice is the only one that plays in my house. Ever since Blackadder he's had a special place in my heart. Vahuely related, Rowan Atkinson should be Vetinari just for Blackadder Back and Forth. And Baldrick (Tony Robinson) reads Discworld on tape. What a weird convuluted train of thought I have after a days work.

And Stephen Fry related*, when discussing V for Vendetta yonks ago i mentioned that living in Britain I realised tht the idea of the BNP coming to power was fairly silly but have found out recently that nationwide 1 in 6 people consider voting for them and in London the number is 1 in 4. hmm.

*Once again only tenuously

Aw, I wish I could get the Stephen Fry versions. When I have money...

Yay for moving into your new place! The little corner of it that we can see looks fantastic :) I always wanted hardwood floors. Is it like that through the rest of the apartment?

Congrats on moving in! Ugh, I know the feeling, having been moved in myself for nearly a month now. It's tiring business.
I watched the British stage version of Sunset Boulevard today. I must say there is no comparision between British and American stage productions.

You watched it? How did you watch it?? Is it available online somewhere? Oh man, the ridiculousness of the differences just in the recordings of the two casts is extreme... I was astonished to find out they had the same director. [loves British drama to death]

One of my friend bought a copy at a theatre conferance in New York. You *might* be able to find a copy on eBay. I'm way to obessessed with British media in general. Especially their sitcoms and ganster flicks.

Ah, it all looks so cozy and Tealinish. *gwin* I'd send you a housewarming gift if I wasn't flat broke - and, anyway, it would never surpass a Stephen Fry in your living room.
