Daniel Handler on Front Row: Here!

He's mostly talking about Adverbs but there are a couple interesting snippets regarding his ... extranominal activities. Ahem.

(If you don't know who Daniel Handler is ... don't bother.)

Meh, I try to keep the communities down to a minimum as I can never keep up with them ... but you are more than welcome to post it if you're a member. It expires Wednesday, just so you know.

I have Edward Gorey's adverb alphabet called 'The Glorious Nosebleed'.
I don't think even Daniel Handler could do any better than that (the Nosebleed doesn't have anything to do with love though).

And how could he be finished with The Series of Unfortunate Events, but not with his Lemony Snicket identity?

We'll just have to see.

The Gashlycrumb Tinies is a marvellous alphabet book as well.... I'll have to look out for the Nosebleed. Oh Edward Gorey! Thank you for being so prolific.

I thought you might be an Edward Gorey sort of person. I've looked in my book and found that 'The Glorious Nosebleed' is known as 'Fifth Alphabet'. The book was my mother's, though; and I think it's out of print. Sorry.

Is 'The Gashlycrumb Tinies' Edward Gorey as well or somebody else?

Yup, Gashlycrumb Tinies was his too ... delightfully macabre, I warn you. It involves the unfortunate fates of twenty-six small children.

There's always the possibility it'll be at a library or in an anthology or something, right?

A library might be your only hope. I looked it up on Amazon just now and the sellers want a minimum of $68.99.

They only want $9 for the Gashlycrumb Tinies, though . . .

It turns out it's in Amphigorey Also, which I own ... I've just been so busy I didn't get to look all the way through it till now. Good stuff. I still like The Gashlycrumb Tinies better though.

What struck me was the quality of the interviewer. Prepared, knowledgeable, aware, he squeezed the most from the guest in the time available.
