Nathaniel a.k.a John Mandrake as he appears in The Golem's Eye (more or less). Kind of a weird combination of Anime/western and painterly/cel shaded, but ... it looks okay, I guess.

And now, a bunch of stuff drawn in the margins of Flash and harvested for your enjoyment:
Jane Farrar - another Bartimaeus character, looking a lot like a Makani girl. Well ... she is.
Boy - some guy in an actiony expression.
A Hand - that's all there is to say.
Hedgehogs - trying to try anthropomorphic hedgehogs with more than one face. (one face each ... more than one way of drawing a face ... argh, sentence structure.)
Mr Shine - Him Diamond. Trolls in cloaks, how exciting. The non-cloaked one isn't him, that's just A Troll.
Phil again - Phil Schaeffer from Sweet Dreams again (actually this was the first one). Looked too much like Milo to bother adding pupils.
Tonkers - No, not like that. Tonker from Monstrous Regiment, drawn multiple times.
Wonses - a couple tries at Lupin Wonse from Guards! Guards! ... though the second one is an unintentionally accurate caricature of Jeeves.

Muchly amusing! I love the coloring you've done on John. You can almost feel the grease.

Yay! You drew Mr. Shine! Even if he is cloaked, it's nice to see him :) I also like the way you wrote "Him Diamond"!

I also love Tonkers muchly. She's so militant and awesome.

Not at all, with a Cintiq! [pockets cash from Wacom]

No, actually, it's pretty nice ... it's a lot more stylus-friendly than Photoshop 7 and it's vector-based so it's always crisp and pretty. Just be sure you draw with the brush and not the pencil; the pencil can do weird things.

I've always imagined Nathaniel's hair into a bit more unkempt. BUt the face is priceless! I love the way you have his face like that. The scowl expresses his personality so well. I've always imagined Wonse more like Chi Fu in Mulan though:) neat digital sketches

I like your Tonkers and Wonses best, even though I don't know who they are. Oh wait, no - I know the second one. Whoop!

Anywho, they're both very confident-looking. Or the drawing is, I should say. Yay sentence structure.

Why, thankee. The confident drawing is part of the whole ack-I-draw-better-on-a-Cintiq-than-on-paper-help-help thing going on right now. eep.

love it

I'm making that trip to the library tomorrow.

Ooh, did you notice how much your phil looks like that guy at work, you know the one. and if you don't i'll point it out on monday.

oh you'll see what i mean =)
I also dig the hedgehogs! I can't imagine how you can bring yourself to draw another fudgehog ever again. Well, unless it's wearing a cool prop, like womans clothes.

trying to try anthropomorphic hedgehogs with more than one face.

*offers* different facial expressions?

And that's about the most clueless I've ever imagined Jeeves...

I like 'Phil again' but I think I like your other drawings of Nathaniel better, or is that even the same Nathaniel?
Another awkward sentence for you, but I think you get my drift.

He's definitely the same Nathaniel, but he's a bit more of a nit at this point in the series than when I've drawn him before. Also, his forehead is way too big in this drawing. Maybe I'll fix that on Monday.

Ok, I played with his forehead a little... can you even tell? (be sure to refresh your browser so the new image loads)

Yay! Nathaniel and his stupid pencil legs and trying to be all kickarse when he's barely a teenager. I wonder when his voice broke; that would have contrasted with his would-be suaveness :P

I like the hedgehog; its huge underbite is cute, gives it a goofy smile.

Gah!

Your coloring rocks. It's one of my favorite drawings by you. I've never read that series. I'm guessing it's pretty good?

From: [identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com
No, it's rubbish. I only drew something from it to lead people on.

<--- end sarcasm --->

It's quite good, actually ... it teeters on the edge of interest on my fantast-o-meter as far as crazy far out fantasy things go (impressive for something that doesn't even have dragons in it) but it starts off really good and each book in the trilogy gets better. It's all down to [drumroll] CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT! You can get away with anything if you have well-developed characters.

'Other drawings' of Nathaniel were mentioned - where can I find these? I love this one! So how I imagined him. :)

Other drawings appeared, er ... a few months ago. To save on hours of frustrating search, here (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v241/twirlynoodle/nathaniel.jpg)'s one and - haha - here (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v241/twirlynoodle/harrynat.jpg)'s another. Both (kind of) from the first one. It'll take some work to draw anything from the third book because I'll have to get over the way Nathaniel looks like the author (http://news.bbc.co.uk/cbbcnews/hi/newsid_4260000/newsid_4261200/4261212.stm) in my head.

But this series is really my sister's territory ... I'm just doodling around while it's fresh in my mind. I cede all 'official' illustration duties to her, or at least I will when she actually gets on it. AHEM.

I like the Nathaniel one. It's... movey.

Caricature of Jeeves, or caricature of Stephen Fry as Jeeves?

Date: 2006-07-11 04:03 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com
Well, Stephen Fry as Jeeves... That' all I know of him, really (Jeves, not Stephen Fry). I don't know how he looks so much like him without having any of Mr Fry's distinguishing characteristics.

Unless it's V for Vendetta, then everything is not all right – that scene scarred me, man, scarred me. No one's allowed to beat up Stephen Fry!

From: [identity profile] azvolrien.livejournal.com
I believe that Stephen Fry could ward off would-be attackers through the power of his enormous brain.

I haven't seen V for Vendetta yet. I want to, though. It comes out on DVD at the end of the month.

Prepare to be scarred! SCARRED!

(Of course now that I've gone on about it, it probably won't seem as bad as your imagination has made it out to be ... it's only one little scene but POW it gets you like that. Or did me, anyway.)

Well, now that I know it's coming... *puts on the anti-scarring cream*

Ms Albert (RME teacher) used V for Vendette in a lesson. We were talking about government interference gone crazy an a' that.
