On last week's episode of Genius on Radio 4, Simon Grey [Gray? Greg?] suggested virtual reality headsets for chickens on battery farms to make them think they're free range and thereby lay better eggs. Well, the logical association did eventually turn up (as they do) and it prompted me to muck around with the technique that has made 'Photoshop' a verb.

This may spread itself around the internet but it started here, folks!
You can listen to this week's show (which isn't quite as funny) here.
EDIT [5 Oct 2006]:
Apparently Dreamworks has split with Aardman — to this I say: 'Nuuuuuuuuuuuuu!' And also, in a silly voice: 'Doy, I'm Dreamworks, and I'm stoopid!' I mean, Aardman's movies are so much better; honestly, Dreamworks doesn't deserve them, especially for how they've abused them, but on the other hand, without this codependent abusive relationship, what's Aardman to do? I hope they can find another US distributor (are you listening, John Lasseter?)... it'd be a terrible loss if they were forced to slip back into relative obscurity all on account of one movie turning out to be slightly disappointing at the US box office. It won the OSCAR, you bozos! Sheesh.

Date: 2006-10-05 12:51 pm (UTC)Tealin, I wanted to tell you that I bought "The color of magic" yesterday ! (In french though, because I don't think I could read something as rich as a Pratchett's book in english - shame on me) So, I'm gonna check your drawings more often from now, to see if I know (at last) all these characters everyone's talking about. So, thanks, because I relly like what I've read already !
NB: What the point with the translation of the titles in France ?!
"The color of magic" = "La huitième couleur"
"The Nightmare before Christmas" = "L'étrange Noël de Mr Jack"
"Harry Potter & the Philoqsopher's Stone" = "Harry Potter à l'école des sorciers"

Date: 2006-10-05 06:28 pm (UTC)Hmmm.... Having kept chickens for about seventeen years, I doubt that headsets would help hens lay better. Artificial lighting makes them lay more eggs than they would otherwise, but the benefits of free-range are more physical than psychological: exercise, diet, etc. So there might be more eggs, but they probably wouldn't be any healthier.
