You know it's a big deal when you see Count Olaf's face on the BBC News front page .... THE END – good for those of you who have no idea what this whole Snicket thing is all about.

THE END

**Spoiler**
I've been waiting for THE END for so long. Yesterday I bought it and the Beatrice letters at about 4pm. By midnight I had finished them both (and I went out from 6:30- 9:00 as well! And take off about 30 mins for dinner and another half hour or so for a shower). I can't believe it's over. I cried too, at the end of THE END.

Fourteen chapters. That suggests that the cycle of bad luck is broken. Maybe the Baudelaires will finally have some good luck. And Count Olaf is dead! He grew into a well rounded character during the series and he was so brilliantly ridiculous with his schemes that I'm sorry to see him go.

I always knew the book wouldn't answer all the questions and that it wouldn't tie up the loose ends neatly like in other books. That sure would have been satisfying, but it would have seemed out of character for the series. It's not an ending, but under the circumstances it is the best we could've hoped for.

And Brett Helquist- is he not the best illustrator ever? HIs drawing perfectly suit and complement Lemony Snicket's whimsical writing. I wish Snicket or Helquist would come to Australia. Preferably Brisbane, Queensland. Is that too much too hope for?
