And once again, I push the boundaries of costume obscurity even further towards utter pointlessness ... but it's a cool costume. And relatively successful if I do say so myself.

Maybe someone in the wide world of the Intarweb will have seen Gormenghast ... so far the closest I've gotten at work is 'Uh, that was that show that was on Space [Canada's Sci-Fi Channel] like every weekend for a few months? I didn't get it.' A better response than I was hoping for!

I'll post photos of my own approximation when I can get a shot of it in daylight (harder since the time change).

THANK YOU MEGHAN FOR SAVING HALLOWEEN! I owe you more than a box of cookies.

All I've ever watched is the episode with Stephen Fry in (for that very reason), but.. yay! Cool costume. :3

Heehee, that's my favourite episode. #3! Mm yes. I must say I almost prefer John Sessions' performance in this particular production, though I might be swayed by his awesome costume design.

Heh. Johnny Sessions is in it as well? Goodness, I missed that...-knows him from watching loads of QI, and from some Whose Line Is it Anyway?- Well there's no doubt Mr. Sessions is awesome. <3

I really think the cane makes that costume. It's a nice coat too.

As far as the time change goes, no one told me when I moved to Canada I'd lose 4 hours of light. It's not supposed to be dark at dinnertime already!

But you get four more hours of light in the summer!

But I'm not going to be here in the summer! Oh well, I guess I traded light for the absence of "X-treme" marketing. Fair enough.

hello! you don't know me, but I read your journal. You draw pretty pictures, and I may need an illistrator some day.
anyway, my boyfriend has read the gormenghast trilogy, and has been trying to get me to watch the series. I'll tell him about your costume, he'll be excited to see it.

I'm San, by the way. nice to meet you.

Lovely costume!! It's quite dashing... I myself am in my KICKASS Hermione Granger costume at present.

I've never heard of Gormenghast, but I'll make a definite point to look for it now :3 it looks smashing.

...I don't suppose you've ever seen/read The 10th Kingdom...?

I think it's a really great movie. Even being a little silly at time, Dianne Wiest makes it one of those fantasy movies that gives me chills at certain times.

I did see a few episodes of it when it first aired, but wasn't terribly impressed ... it's not really my sort of thing. Of course it may have suffered from coming out round about the same time as Gormenghast, against which any other TV fantasy miniseries would pale. A few of my friends in AP Art were nuts about it but I just didn't get it, I guess. I didn't know there was anything about it to read ... was it a book first? Wasn't Mr Mowett in it?

Lol, well, I know it's not her... since she's not a man and I'm almost positive she hasn't played any main characters in any movies. Although she may have animated a few.

I believe (Though I might be lying. I do that.) that she made this costume. Or at least the coat, because she's been mooning over it on her journal. XD

Thanks for answering that ... I was trying to devise a response that didn't sound rude but it was eluding me. You did far better than I would have. But you give me too much credit! I haven't animated anyone, alas! Maybe someday. Ande yes, I sewed the coat; the rest was mostly modifying existing pieces of clothing. (I'm flattered you've kept such good track of me!)

I SAW IT OMG IT WAS AMAZING! Hee. I dunno if it was amazing, but I loved it, and am now currently attempting to work my way through the trilogy. About... waht, five years later? It took me maybe three years to find the books, and another two to get a hundred pages in. Wow. It's kinda slow :-)

ooh me me pick me! I've seen gormenghast, except it was years ago and I dont remember much because i think the grotesqueness of lady prunella or whatever the mother's name was scarred me, or the overall weirdness of it all. my adolescent heart crushed on Titus groan.

and, i dont know whoever said it, see the 10th kingdom. fantastic costume-ture. wasn't there supposed to be a 2nd one? or was that just for the books? I wanted to see the wolf-puppy guy...

I SAW IT. It was creepified and seriously cool. My mom has read the Gormenghast trilogy, but I've never managed it. Its neat to have some pictures from it; I tried drawing Steerpike without photo reference, but with minimal success. I'd forgotten how cool his costume was! 8D

(Is that the costume you made?)

I can sympathize with the obscure costume thing. A girl in my writing class didn't even realize I was wearing a costume until I told her. It was a bit worrying, really (as in, "You think I'd dress like this if it wasn't Halloween?). I was a pirate, by the way, which I suppose isn't so obscure, although the fact that I had to explain what I was kind of makes it obscure. I blame the fact that I couldn't find a decent hat.

What is Gormenghast about? I'm interested now.

I have admired your art for quite a long time, and now am compelled to respond. I love the movie and books of Gormenghast, and Steerpike is one one my favorite characters (along with Flay and Dr. Prunesuallor.)

Thanks for peeking out from the shadows! I have to admit I have not yet read the books, partly out of intimidation at their length and density and partly because of the circumstances under which I was first exposed to the 'movie' which is far too long a story to go into here. I'm in two minds about Steerpike, I mean, he's certainly interesting ... and dimensional ... but not really sympathetic despite being an underdog. Prunesquallor, on the other hand, is definitely my favourite character, and for once he doesn't die! Extra points for that.
