Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows cover released

Um ... okay ...

The artist seems to have captured Rupert Grint's gerning quite accurately. Aside from that ... well, I've never liked the British covers much. On the other hand, Mary GrandPre's is deliciously atmospheric and much nicer to look at, especially without text and stuff cluttering it up. I must warn you though, it is HYOOOOOOOJ. (Thanks [livejournal.com profile] spence137!)

... British Potter covers anyway, because Paul Kidby ROCKS and Making Money looks to be no exception! (thanks to [livejournal.com profile] thefordmustang for pointing that out so long ago which I never acknowledged, sorry!) I have little doubt the contents will also be superior.

Oh, isn't it awful? That's the first thing I thought - poor old Rupert Grint's standard Ron face. Harry looks about...thirty and Hermione appears to be suffering a hot flush.

Pretty much: Ugh.

I guess I'm in the minority because I love the british book covers over the US ones. :)

They're so much more artsy fartsy.

I am most excited!

Who/ what's that on Harry's back? I'm guessing...Dobby? Kreature? Curious. Thanks for posting!

Weilding Godric's Sword, by the looks of things.

Hah. Dobby is Godric's Heir. Now that would make me cackle to pieces.

So it looks like we get a gringotts battle. Ker-yay.

Oh, wow, didn't even think of that... I was sitting there going, "why are there gold coins flying all over the place? Where could they possibly be?"

And I call myself a fan...

A battle in Gringott's? Hm, that's veeeeeeery interesting fodder for the speculation mill.

Is there a Stargate involved too? 'Cause it looks like there's one in the background :p

That cover is SO XTREME LOLZ 'SPLOSIONS!!1

OMG STARGATE CROSSOVER 'SPLOSIONS.

And then they can meet Vimes In Space, and rack up a Discworld crossover as well.

... Gringotts would totally have a Stargate in their vaults. Wait a minute – wait a minute – maybe the Stargate is a Horcrux! Maybe it's in Sirius' vault! Maybe when he was in hiding he was on another planet!

I am thinking about this way too much.

From: [identity profile] anathelen.livejournal.com
Your Vimes looks suspiciously like Richard Dean Anderson (at least the one drawing I remember, which means I picture Vimes as vaguely RDAnderson-esque)... I have it! They're the same person! A crossover is imminent!

Wait, wait, no, the Department of Mysteries Veil is a Stargate and it transported Sirius into a Gringotts vault and he's been trying to get out ever since and Harry goes into Gringott's to bust him out! But that wouldn't work in the Stargate Universe because both Stargates would have the same point of origin... so the Stargate must be magical as well.

From: [identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com
Ah, no, see, that is where the title 'Vimes In Space' comes from – Mr Anderson's character (erm ... uh ... O'Neill?) is very Vimes, only he's in Space, so combine that with the 'Pigs in Space' segment on the Muppet Show and you get 'Viiiimes ... iiiin ... SPAAAACE!'

Anyway, I know he's a significant influence on my mental image of Vimes (thanks to my former roommate's Stargate habit) and it was only when I consciously realized this that I got a drawing of Vimes that I liked.

So back to this crossover thing: MAGICAL STARGATES! If the veil gate transported Sirius to Gringotts then ... there would be ... a wormhole... THROUGH THE EARTH. Or through part of London anyway. That would seriously injure the fabric of reality, and probably open up the Dungeon Dimensions.

Ding! Crossover #4. Kind of. Well, it's still Discworld, but it's so very not a Vimesy Discworld thing and ... I'm rambling.

I got confused half-way through your description and began simply reading the names you listed off. :D

Heehee, Vimesy! *snuffles Vimes* Ooh, and Sirius! *snuffles him too*

Not only will there be a Stargate, there will also be PIRATE WIZARDS (which I mentioned on a buttfacemakani thread). There is obvious booty on the UK cover, and where there is booty there are pirates. QED. With a Stargate. And maybe a floating magical pirate ship with house-elves in costumes standing in as monkeys.

whoa, that cover is WAY intense for a book with a brooding, dark title.

I'm pretty sure if one were to try and string a viola like a violin, the strings would snap. Unless I misunderstand your question. It would also probably sound bad... I'm guessing not unlike a rooster fighting a cat.

Hold your horses, it's not out till October ...

On the other hand, it's only just over six months away. And Amazon might have a larger cover picture before then! [joins the flailing, which is spelled correctly by the way]

October? My birthday's in October. =D Except really early (the 4th) so of course it comes out in late October and I can't ask it for my birthday. Bah.

I'll just spend my flailing-energy on TDH for now and start flailing for MM after I've read that one. :p

Yes, the Harry Potter Cover is big news at our office. I have been trying without success to get them hooked on Discworld.

Thanks for the shout out about "Making Money." I am so looking forward to that book- I need a good laugh. That thing about taking the chairman for a walk each day was pretty funny. I imagine we will not have such a cute "Making Money" book cover in the USA- we go for the Karl Hiaasen look here for the Discworld covers. Pity, because Paul Kidby spoofs popular culture so much in his cover art.
I do have to give kudos, though, to the guy who designed the U.S. paperbook version of "Going Postal" that kind of seemed to be spoofing the Kevin Costner film "The Postman."

"Um ... okay ... " My sentiments exactly.

Hermione's robes make her look like Madame Trelawney.

I like the adult cover, though. Those ones tend to be pretty cool.

Making Money = YAY!!! Must feed Discworld addiction!

Definitely like the American one, although why Voldie and Harry seem to be reaching for something "off-camera" is kind of confusing. Wands maybe?

Ugh, Gringotts battle. And here I was hoping they'd go back to the Department of Mysteries again.

Are you sure that's Gringotts? It looks to me like the Great Hall of Hogwarts, what with the sky and everything. Which is kind of a scary thought...

Funny you mention the DoM. My mother thought that Harry and You-Know-Who were battling in the Death Chamber. Must've been those arches in the background.

Ha ha ha ha ha, it's like they wanted it to look SORT OF like the movie chars, but not TOO MUCH like them. That one on the right - is that the one we Canadians will get? Because that'll be the first time they put actual chars on the cover.

Let's hope it's better than the last book. (heh heh, that was just flame-bait. though i honestly did not like the last one.)

I've been thinking that the British covers were a bit weird-looking for a while now.
