I stumbled upon an article yesterday expressing deep disappointment with the Sheridan grad class, which was interesting to read because I hear practically nothing about the school or its students beyond a certain relative obsessing over their blogs. Anyway, I'd promised to send the link to someone I was talking to last night, and in looking it up again today I discovered that a)it had been moved due to extreme traffic and b)a large number of yesterday's comments (which I hadn't read) had been tacked on the end. I started reading them out of curiosity but then did a double take 3/4 of the way down the page when I saw MY NAME. I had to stare at it for a bit to make sure it was really there. Now, this is a good thing, because I was mentioned in the context of having solid animation-friendly drawings, but ... being held up as an example ... to Sheridan students??

I would like to thank Mr (assuming he's male) Anonymous for linking to my Discworld page and not, say, really ancient backwaters of Potterdom. I don't know who he is, and though he refers to me as a 'colleague' I don't think he's a workmate of mine because the other people he links to are not colleagues in the 'work for the same company' kind of way; I don't know them and they appear to live in different cities. Of course I know very few of the vast number of people I work with, it's possible those two might have moved here, but I'm pretty sure only two or three people at work know about my website.

So, yes. Immensely flattering. Kind of scary. But it explains why my Discworld page has had a sudden jump in traffic consisting mostly of direct hits...

Jeez Tealin, I'm a Sheridan student but I don't obsess over my blogs, give some of us some credit XD XD

Also, give yourself some credit, your drawings are pretty good.

Anyway, I'm kind of dying to read Wintersmith after seeing your illustrations. I couldn't find the book anywhere, not even on Limewire and our branch of public library is still ordering it....*sigh*

I kind of got the impression this article had made its rounds amongst the residents of Oakville ... had you not seen it? I still have to get my head around how many people are in the program there, I'm used to thinking in units of 22. As for next year, well, now you know what some people are looking for, at least ... right?

I got Wintersmith at Book Warehouse, and the last time I was there they still had a copy ... you can probably find one pretty cheap on eBay too. I suspect it'll come out in paperback within a year but I'm always amazed how expensive paperbacks are up here.

Yeah, I did read the article. I worked for the school open house, so I did get to see the reels. I would say it's more of a mixed bag, because some did what my friends would call "NFB sctuff", pieces that are mostly WTF , some did really cutesy stuff, some did EXCELLENT shorts. But I do agree this mixed bag is more due to the curriculum experimentation of the B.A.A that has not been perfected, like the article said (I'm one of the guinea pigs too)

There are about 120 students in my year and 75 in the graduating year. Yeah, the good thing that came ouot of that article is now I know what to do for my demo reel. Humm, I'll focus more on the animation aspect then.

ah yah, I think I read that same article.

I was a little disappointed that nobody made anything inspired by like, Disney/WB/Bluth etc. Nothing really cartoony, with like, takes and reactions and stuff...There were some films I really liked, while a lot of them, I kinda gave a "meh" and forgot about them.
The thing is, I'm sure many of the students are capable of doing good quality animation, but the whole idea of making a film and animating it, they end up doing the idea that they want, so it might not represent their skills as best as it could have, definitely if they're put under pressure. I helped a little with cleanup and scanning for the Babushkis film, and just being in the presence of upper years making films, I can totally see how stressful is is. But whatever, that's just my theory---which could be wrong /8|

I'm really really hoping, and going to try, to make something that's impressive and worth watching in my later years 8)

(and yes, you got one heck of a drawing skill 8D )
