The ending of Mattimeo - or at least the peak in the denouement - still makes me want to laugh, cry, run around hugging people, or eat great loads of delicious food. Man, I love this book...

Because I can't help myself... here are the first six Redwall books in the order they were written:
Redwall
Mossflower
Mattimeo
Mariel of Redwall
Salamandastron
Martin the Warrior
In my opinion, these are the best. The 'canon,' if you will, of the series ... everything written after Martin just doesn't seem ... quite ... right. Not quite authentic. I began to suspect a ghostwriter when they started accelerating releases - I mean, these books are quite lengthy and complicated, and have got to take more than eight months to write. So either less time was put into them or someone was brought on to "help" ... or I am a paranoid delusional conspiracy theorist.

So ... coming from me, if you want to read them, I'd advise you to read these ones first. So there. Yeah.

WHY am I still up this late?

Oh yeah, and if ancient weather suprstitions are to be believed, Spring is coming early, here, this year - you'd hardly suspect it with the crocuses bursting out all over and balmy breezes on the air...

Oh Mr. Gillis, you and your intellectual property, landing you in trouble again...

I am still not in bed. You'd think I'd learn...

Okay... I haven't ever read Redwall books. And reading your LJ has made me want to read all of them. Am I easily talked into stuff or what? Maybe I better find them from library first to see if I like them as much as you do. But the name Mattimeo is so... so great! That's all I can say. It just sounds good in your ears. And pronouncing it... Mat-ti-meo , just great. I love good names! ^_^

Speaking of pronunciations (haha, inavertent pun) I was slightly dismayed to find I've been pronouncing almost every single name wrong... I thought I was on a role when I found out I pronounced "Salamandastron" the right way when no one else I knew said it properly, but in exchange, nearly everything else I've assumed has been wrong.

Wow, I actually convinced someone to do something... and here I was thinking I had no sales skills. I hope you enjoy it, otherwise I'd have no end of guilt.

Aha! I post at last.

Oh, good old Redwall. I remember these books from middle school, "Mattimeo" being the first one I read from the library there. The librarian thought I was a bit loony for checking it out over and over again as often as I did. I only own two from the series, but I haven't re-read them in ages. Time for a dusting off of Mossflower.

How DO you pronounce Salamandastron, anyway? I've always been saying it "sal-ah-MAN-dah-stron".

Aha! That's how everyone says it! but they're wrong! Brian Jacques and I say it Sal-uh-man-DAS-tron. However, it is mat-tim-AY-o instead of ma-TIMMY-o, SLAY-gar instead of SLAG-er, ko-TEER instead of KO-ter, na-DAZ instead of NAH-duhz, mal-KAIR-iss instead of MAL-ku-riss, and who knows what else.

Don't fall to pieces. I read the first page (did I really have enough time to read yesterday?) and I liked it. I laughed, though, I'm not sure was it supposed to be funny... =^^=

Wait, stop! You're not reading Mattimeo first are you? Bacuse that is very much a sequel - probably more so than any of the others.

If it's Redwall you're reading, to the best of my memory it starts with Matthias falling down, which I believe is supposed to be a comical event.

Don't worry! I'm not reading Mattimeo first!! It's Redwall ! And yes, it was the falling down I was laughing to. That and the mixing up with the words. =^^=

Although, I think my future son will probably hate me... It is so great name. I've always thought that fantasy writers can come up with more beautiful names than all your average names! Though how do you explain to the priest doing the babtizing: "Oh yes, I found the name from a book! It was the name of a son of a warrior mouse..."

Wasn't there once an animated series of the Redwall books? Or something? I think I remember one...
Yes. And it was nothing to the books. The characters looked a bit...generic. (your designs are better, undoubtedly.)It was on PBS, I think.
