Please forgive me for being so tardy with this; I've been catching up with real live people IN PERSON this week. Madness! These were going to go up early early this morning but I was out watching meteors and then someone was kind enough to spray pepper spray somewhere in my building, so it was 3am by the time we were allowed back in, and that meant bed.
So, at long last, have a medium-sized image dump!

You are my little lads, and I will look after you. The Slug Club, with attendees taken from both the Hogwarts Express and Christmas incarnations of the organization. Another drawing, another Hermione design, and Blaise looks a bit like the saucié in Ratatouille but we'll pretend not to notice that ... This started out as a gag sketch but really it's all in the caption so I didn't bother changing Slughorn's design. Yes, that moustache is just part of the clever disguise...

Assuming it's one of those not-actually-canon things that I was so sure about, like Snape's beard or his hair being slicked back or who knows what else, I was trying to think where I got the idea of Moody's eye being so fantastically huge, and came up with a theory: There was a Prairie Home Companion in June of 1996 which I recorded and listened to many times which had, in the News From Lake Wobegon, a story about a man who accidentally killed his father at a softball game by hitting the softball right at his eye. He fled from town but returned quite a few years later and anonymously left on his father's grave a paper bag containing a softball painted as a bright, staring blue eye. Moody's eye isn't quite softball-sized but I'm sure that story wormed its way far enough into my subconscious that when a description was thrown up calling for a large staring blue eye, that softball was ready it take its place.
He's doing the Andreas Eye, here, for which he is perfectly suited in physique and character. It seems like most of Andreas Deja's characters lean forward and stare with one googly eye at least once in their respective movies, hence the name for the signature move.

What's a better way to start a summer's day than with MOODY AT THE BEACH? I don't know what possessed me to draw this, but ... well, the deed is done. Apologies for any scarring it might have caused. [EDIT: Forgot his wooden leg. DUH. See the second comment for feeble excuses. I'm losing it...]

There was one day (a Tuesday, I believe) on which Pasadena was beset with helicopters – army helicopters, of two different varieties. I deduced later in the day, after they took a break for lunch and left by 5, that they were probably related to some filming or other because that seemed rather soft for war games, but in the morning when I was waiting to be let into work, it was an oddly disquieting thing. I was sitting drawing opposite the door to the studio, which was still locked at that point, and made a good alcove for potentially hiding from sinister helicopters should one need to do so ... somehow Lily and James dropped into the scenario, so I guess they're ... um ... on some sort of Aurors' mission gone bad? Anyway, I'm terrible at drawing beautiful women so I tried using my sister's Lily model, but somehow when I tried drawing it it lost that special flavour. Much work do be done in that department.
~ DEATHLY HALLOWS CHAPTER 33 ~

A thumbnail for Snape's breakdown in Dumbledore's office ... I love the intensity from an otherwise reserved character and how it's completely one-sided. This may become an actual illustration someday but I like the energy of the thumbnail.

Young Snape, with his funny smock thing. I had this design in mind when I redesigned adult Snape; I hope they look like the same person.

Late teenage Snape, unfortunately drawn across the gutter of my sketchbook...

Date: 2007-08-13 06:10 pm (UTC)One question though: Where's Moody's wooden leg?
no subject
Date: 2007-08-13 06:14 pm (UTC)Ummm, he's wearing his magically realistic prosthetic, so as not to further scare young children. Yes. It, um, was transfigured to look like a normal leg using MAGIC. Which he can do.
Or else it's proof of the curative seaside air.

Great job!

Date: 2007-08-13 08:57 pm (UTC)1) I think it's mainly obvious, but I think I'd like to see who exactly is who(m?) in the pic. Also; it's called a saucie(accent over the e) Sauce-ee-ay. But that's not important. I love the variety of expressions on there faces. Half of them are nervously hesitant around him, some are non-caring, and some of them are . . . well, Luna. XD'''
2) I rather like the browset on 'im. Very pronounced and over-exaggerated and perfect for this picture. -_O It's staaaring at you. And, er, hate to bring it up, but I thought he had a chunk of his nose missing . . . I wouldn't mention it, but the nostril is also staring at me.
3) . . . XD Gawd, why. It also reminds me of this; http://linake.deviantart.com/art/Summer-2005-22680786
4) I don't know what you're talking about, your Lily is amazing. Her expression is fabulous and I still love your James. He's similar to Harry yet obviously distinctive.
5) omg this is a great thumbnail. And his hand looks vaguely claw-like, but the intensity is amazing. Awesome job.
6) XD Smock-thing, I'd forgotten about that. He looks really really good. It's . . . he's . . . GAH STOP BEING GOOD. D:
7) It totally looks like the young Severus, and gutter of the sketchbook or not it looks fantastic.
I'll leave now. :D''' Ciao.

Date: 2007-08-13 09:19 pm (UTC)2) I always imagined that the chunk of his nose that was missing was the nostril, or rather the cap of flesh that covers the nostril, leaving that side of his nose just a hole. It could have been ripped off when someone tried sticking their wand up his nose or been part of some sort of booby trap or ... something. I dunno. It seemed the most accident-prone bit of nose.
3) Whaa?
Thanks overall!

Date: 2007-08-15 05:16 pm (UTC)I was glad to read what you wrote about the book. Hey, Percy didn't die, haha ! But I thought Snape's death was pretty cool, because it's almost his one and only scene in the whole book ! And afterwards you can have his story, it was brilliant.
Don't Harry and James have longer chins in your drawings now ? Your young Harry always make me think about Arthur in...The Sword in the Stone ? (not sure of the english title)
Young Severus is just perfect and I LOVE "He can fly !". I couldn't stop laughing the first time I saw the drawing.
I hope we'll see each other soon, but since I'm at Disneyboy's, and you're back home... I think so, anyway... So I hope you won't miss me too much until then ;)

Moody at the beach is kinda tramatising. :p
I lovelovelove Lily's outfit - the floorlenght skirt/dress! Also, their embrace is so trusting. <3
Ooh. Please make an actual drawing of that thumbnail/sketch!
Kid!Snape is adorable. I want to adopt him - and it's SNAPE. :p
I love how teen!Snape has essentially the same expression as kid!Snape. They're both great!

Date: 2007-08-13 10:59 pm (UTC)I love doing gesture thumbnail drawings like the one of Snape in Dumbledores office. They'e so fun, and even though if you're the only one that understands whats going on, it's super hard core cause you know the emotion that you were trying to put out.... heh
lol little Sev's smock looks like those hippi-blouses that are back in style XD

Very nice sketches! I like the emotion in the gesture doodle and your takes on Slughorn and Moody. Hahaha, I love Slughorn. Also lovin' those young Snapes, but that goes without saying. Hahaha, aw, sneakers.

The greyscale cg is kinda cool, people don't do that very much, seems like.

3-*shudders* Um...good job on making him look like he was buff once but is now all old and saggy
4-Aurors...is THAT what James and Lily did? Huh...I always wondered...
5-Thumbnail good...do more! DO MORE!
6-Hehe...Ickle Snape is so cutes ^_^
7-Happy looking he is not! :P

Date: 2007-08-14 10:34 pm (UTC)It took me a while to pin it down but your teenage Snape reminds me of the way the peasants were drawn in a book I had as a kid, The Measly Middle Ages by Horrible Histories (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horrible_Histories). The whole "I can't believe this crap kill me now" look in his eyes is the same. Good job on making him look like a weedy adolescent - too few people draw teenagers gawky-looking enough (Makani's Ron being a great exception). Your previous Snape design reminded me of your Holmes, which I liked since I see some of Holmes' cool logic in Snape... and they're both awesome. Whenever I listen to the BBC Sherlock Holmes radio plays on DC at work I see your Holmes in my mind.

Date: 2007-08-15 05:26 am (UTC)I really like your Moody better than anyone else's that I've seen, but for some reason, from the very VERY first, I always imagined Moody's eye to be mechanical, like Song John Silver's eye in Treasure Planet. Thus far, I've never known anyone else to get that impression. But still, in my head, I see this big, blue telescope-ish eye that can swivel around mechanically like it's a ball and socket joint...
But Moody at the beach is just amazing, and it could have happened BEFORE he lost his leg--unless he lost his leg before he lost his eye *racks brain but can't remember* D8 You really should darken in the background on that one ^_~
Lily reminds me of someone, and it's going to bug me until I figure out who... I LOVE that pose, though! It reminded me of how Harry, Ron and Hermione would apparate onto the front step at Grimmauld Place to avoid being seen. Maybe Lily and James had to do something similar at some point.
You must make a full size Snape's breakdown as well as the thumbnail, because--for some reason-- in my head, I'm seeing the mouth-less Dumbledore in the thumbnail SMILING. O_O
Oh, WOW! I actually laughed out loud when I saw little Snape's smock thing! I've been wondering how to imagine that and now... I'm not wondering any more xD And I love teenage Snape's expression; his facial features remind me a lot of a friend of mine, though...
Amazing work, as always!

Date: 2007-08-16 05:52 pm (UTC)Love the teenage Snape. I used to know a kid in high school who looked scarily like him.
Snape's breakdown in Dumbledore's office was one of my favorite moments in the series. For some reason though, I picture the scene as Snape sitting in a chair bent over with his hands over his head (as you have him) with Dumbledore standing behind him, with the vantage point being from behind, above the two of them... but I love yours as well.
