In the '60s it was the Draft Dodgers; in the '00s, it's the Bush Refugees.

In a totally unrelated story, I swear, I can attribute my survival of Southwest Flight 1289 to my actual speaking up and telling the guy next to me to turn off his CD player until we'd reached cruising altitude. Yup, that was all me... it would have been flaming fireballs otherwise, on account of not wearing the curtainy dress.

Wow, I'm FAMOUS! In the GUARDIAN no less! I've actually heard of that one!

SEE!

Of course, it's pixellated and distorted beyond all reason, and the frame around it makes me think they got it off someone else's site, but ... that's mine!

I don't know what it's like where any of you are, but in my family's neighbourhood, it's a tradition to give neighbourhood gifts. Something small and cheap that is run to everyone's door by a shivering child who doesn't really know who you are. It probably started out as just a cocktail plate of cookies but pretty soon everyone was overloaded with cookies, so people started bringing around other things. Sometimes it was something like an orange with an inspirational story about orphans sharing, or some sort of gift that lends itself to horrible puns. A helping of this year's selection:

On a package of Jolly Rancher Gummies:
"Have a Holly 'Jolly' Christmas.... It's the best time of the year."

And on something mysteriuosly wrapped in brown paper:
Get the Season "OFF" to the right start. don't[sic] let the Bah-Hum-Bug Bite!

Gee, bug spray. Is there anything more Christmasy? Maybe in Australia...
