Radio Monday
Aug. 12th, 2013 04:24 pmFeels like ages since I've had a bundle of radio shows to throw at people ...
First and foremost, Cabin Pressure is rerunning, starting with Episode 1: Abu Dhabi. It's interesting; the first series is brilliant and right at the top of the league of radio sitcoms, but having just listened to the entire run of the show I can say it's really grown. Anyway, if you haven't yet allowed yourself the pleasure of enjoying Cabin Pressure this is your perfect opportunity to start. If it doesn't leave you in even a slightly better mood this may be a sign of more serious mental health problems and you may be advised to consult a professional.
Ivor Cutler at 90 - a posthumous birthday celebration for Glasgow's supreme absurdist poet and songwriter. Ever since Armando Iannucci had an episode of Jelly Mountain on his turn as Comedy Controller, telling the story of how as a kid he'd hear this weird weird thing coming out of his radio late at night, I've felt like Ivor Cutler is our little secret, but of course this is ridiculous, and in this show a number of people who knew him get together and reminisce about his singular talent.
Elastic Planet: The Hair - Another dose of radio absurdity, in this case following a travel documentarian around the world recording things from his, erm, unique perspective. Worth it for the San Francisco weather forecast alone. (You do not need to have visited San Francisco to get it, but it doesn't hurt.)
The Mel and Sue Thing - I listened to this three times in one day last week; I don't know why but it seems to have hit the spot. I can't not share. Ladies being silly! So refreshing. Listen before Wednesday!
Just A Minute today was a particularly funny one, with a very entertaining subplot about Nicholas Parsons' lovechildren. ... Yeah, I dunno, just listen.
