Radio Roundup
Jan. 16th, 2014 10:39 pmNot too much this week as I've left my laptop home most days and have been mainlining Blackadder Goes Forth like it's about to become illegal. Tally-ho, yippity-yap, and zing-zang spillip!
ATTENTION AMERICAN SHERLOCK FANS: If you know the original story of 'Charles Augustus Milverton,' watching Episode 3 of the new series is kind of a dialogue with its makers, and I think it makes it a lot more fun. Luckily R4x is hosting the radio dramatisation, which aside from being an optional prerequisite for the TV episode, is cracking good radio drama as well, and one of my very favourites in the radio series for how much fun it is.
Also, if you ever wondered why Sherlock appears briefly covered in blood and holding a harpoon, you may like to listen to Black Peter, though you have very little time in which to do so as it expires Saturday.
Simon Hoggart, who hosted The News Quiz before Sandi Toksvig, passed away recently. In tribute, R4x reran an episode from 2005, which happens to feature two guests who have also since joined the great panel game in the sky. I started listening to Radio 4 in 2005 and while I can't remember hearing this episode specifically, it was a nice little blast from the past.
This week's Unbelievable Truth may make you wonder what certain panellists get up to when they aren't on air.
And finally, a friendly reminder that John Finnemore's Souvenir Programme is running, so the world is a marginally better place.
