Ooh, I have such high hopes for this movie! I was greatly diappointed by Chicken Little, and Meet the Robinsons I liked a lot, but they were still abusing jokes and making too much use of wacky characters that were there just for the sake of comedy but without much purpose. (I didn't see The Wild, so I'm holding my opinion there). Through this trailer I see a better balance between comedy and drama, which is something I feel Pixar excels at, the secret to their success, and which Disney once knew well, but lost/forgot/threw away at some point. The cat and the hamster look oh so funny, and will obviously be the comic reliefs, but they also seem to have a purpose of being there, they will further the plot and not hinder it.

I don't know much about animation, but I certainly see a trace of Pixar's hand here (Penny looks a bit like Violet from The Incredibles), while still being a Disney flick. It is not a pretentious animation, rather a simple but very well done style that goes very well with this type of movies; not too real-looking, but not distortioned either. Endearing characters that will also make great merchandise (I am totally buying any Bolt plushie that comes out, though I admit I would have liked a kind of blend between this Bolt and the old design by Sanders. This one's so... White).

It's a shame that they haven't promoted this film so much. I mean, it's already JUNE, almost JULY, and only now are we getting something tangible. I guess they want to focus their efforts on Princess and the Frog (I've seen the small trailer due to be released within some special edition DVD -maybe Sleeping Beauty?- and it's so good I can barely wait!

Haha, they say they're putting all their efforts behind Bolt ... maybe now that Wall-E is out we'll actually see something. They don't even have the official website up yet! But they definitely say they're pushing Bolt now and saving Frog stuff for later. Yeah, we'll see...

How'd you see the Frog trailer? Were you at that thing in New York?

Thanks for the feedback!

I'm afraid I've never even been in New York, so I don't know what the thing was! XD

Nah, the trailer was dubbed for Latin America and I saw them do it.

WOW. Just....WOW.

I kinda forgot this movie existed after Sanders left the project, but it looks like they managed to salvage it! I'm terribly excited now, it looks solid, and I'm loving the characters already! O.o

Looks cute but kind of generic. Some of the humans look like Tim Burton characters. Nice concept but it seems derivative of Pixar's Cars.

Too bad they couldn't come up with another name for the little girl character. Penny was also the kid who was kidnapped in The Rescuers.

I suspect they picked 'Penny' because it's been used ... it's also the name of the girl in Inspector Gadget, which also had a dog, an over-the-top villain, techno-stuff, and was an action comedy.

it's just disney right? See i thought they did really good without Pixar with meet the robinsons as far as animation and character design went... and i think Bolt looks pretty good.

The Hampster is my favourite already.... I'll get my ball!

This will sound weird but i always find it so interesting and cool how they get like a realistic long dog snout and get it to talk and how they make the "lips" and muscles move to look like it talks like a human, but it looks like a real dog schnoz...

i'm still most excited for Frog Princess.... oh what i would give to see 2D animation again!

The animation on the humans is a bit stiff. So is Bolt's sometimes, which is a bit of a downer considering he's the hero. But I love the cat's design and movements, and for a Disney movie the premise sounds surprisingly fresh. Maybe not exactly original, but more interesting than some of their last efforts. For the first time in a long time, I'm actually feeling somewhat positive over a Disney flick (in the absence of any decent footage from Frog Princess).

Isn't Bolt supposed to be a puppy? I'm really kind of tired of baby animals talking with adult voices in Hollywood movies. I'm guessing he's being voiced by another celebrity, but does anyone really care? I think he'd be a more sympathetic character if he actually sounded like a kid. But then, maybe I'm wrong about his age, perhaps he's just a small dog.

No, you're right. Fox and the Hound nearly had me in tears as a kid because they had pup voices with a little bit of lowing vowels in the hound voice.

I don't get the celebrity voice thing. Kids don't care, parents are dragged there anyway. And I dislike the habit of working with a pro voice actor on developing a voice, then dropping them and bringing in a celebrity to match the product.

That's why Rhino (the hamster) is the best, because he was picked only for his talent.

It looks SO CUTE! Seriously, it's been a while since I've seen a movie with that sorta format (talking animals and such) that didn't have any characters that I thought "UGH, I''m not seeing it because of that one" or "I'll endure that character just to enjoy the rest". None of them seemed cloying or annoying!

And Bolt is WAY more adorable than I thought! He's so little and puppy-like, I just want to squeeeeeze him!!

(I saw the preview last night when I went to see WALL-E)

ETA: OH! Also, the animation on that pidgeon, AHAHAHA, priceless!

This looks like a lot of fun-- another one of those wacky madcap animated adventures-- and I think I'll like it a lot, but I have a feeling I'll forget about it a few months after seeing it. The animation on the animals and backgrounds is great, though (though I've still never seen 3D animated humans that really pleased me, for some reason-- I could manage to like Incredibles' animation because it was supposed to look like a comic book).

I never thought I'd say this, but from the little I heard, I was rather impressed by Miley Cyrus. She didn't sound like "Hannah Montana" to me-- and it's rare that I hear a celebrity voice actor without thinking, "Hey, that sounds just like [famous character they played.]"

My problem is, a lot of it seemed pretty derivative. Anyone recognize those three pigeons? The show "Animaniacs" had three verrry similar pigeons, with the same colour scheme. (I love the animation on these ones, though.) The hamster's animation reminded me somehow of Syndrome from "The Incredibles" and the Green-Eyed Man somehow looked a lot like Bowler Hat Guy to me. Penny's mom also looks familiar, but I can't place it.

Penny's mom reminded me of Timon's mom from Lion King 1 1/2 ... have no idea WHY though.

I'm so tired of seeing "CGI animals do wacky things". It's like the movie studios have at least one or two every month, and it's the same plot with different characters, animals, etc...
I'm sick of it.

From: [identity profile] buttfacemakani.livejournal.com
Maybe I'm being a buttface but Ehhhhhhhhhhhh.. idk. I guess if I'm going to try and pinpoint why it made me feel that way- I'm not really feelin the style, I think because it's not anything new and/or dosen't have really much a twist on an old style.. a lot of the character animation looks too fluid (not sure if that's the right term.. it makes me think of heavy tweening or something though) and I think the rest is just that the story isn't my type of story I guess. The hampster humor is eh too. I'm getting a "kids movie that kids will enjoy" vibe rather than "kids movie that everyone will enjoy" vibe. Or maybe I just have a negative knee-jerk reaction to Disney style dogs due to wolf artists on deviantart lol.

I should point out that I think WallE looks really good and I want to see it, even though I don't like robots lol.

Hm. I guess the best word to describe my reaction is... ambivalent. I appreciate that it’s a little bit of a parody of Disney’s long line of animal starred movies. But I’d probably only go see it if I were stuck with the kids for a day.

Since I'd say I'm a huge Chris Sanders fan, I don't know if I would feel right about seeing it, for one. When I talked to him at Comic Con he was saying how Disney let him take his cat character off the project, and he was happy to be left with the cat because he felt it was the one character that was really special, and now it's the star of that Kiskaloo comic he's been doing on his website.

Just... Every time I see anything about Bolt, I get kinda upset. It's a difficult thing because I really like John Lasseter and yet it sounds likes he's the one to blame for Chris Sanders working at Dreamworks now. :\ Now I'm not saying Chris can do no wrong, and I haven't seen Bolt, so who knows, maybe Lasseter was right about this one and it really was "too eccentric for its own good," but I just don't know about that. I don't think there's anything wrong with sweet eccentricity, especially in a world where too many kids feel the need to blend in completely even if they're actually different...

There seems to be absolutely no messages anywhere nowadays letting kids know that it's okay to be unique. And I think a lot of kids are gonna get complexes because of it, honestly.

Anyway, even if I wanted to see Bolt, which reminds me of Rover Dangerfield for some reason, I think it'll be really distracting thinking of how great it would have looked. And that cat, who is not the Chris Sanders cat... just in the trailer alone it was totally weird because I could just see the cat with the eyepatch in my mind.

It's just a shame all around. I was REALLY looking forward to it when it was American Dog (although less so when I found out it wasn't 2D), but Bolt just looks like the same old crap to me, now. It went through the Vanilla-izer because the toys will be cheaper to manufacture, and that's all I see when I look at it. :\

I will be fair and say it doesn't look as bad as I imagined when I heard it was being revisioned. But I would be very surprised if it ended up being good, because, well... Beverly Hills Chihuahua. Disney was proud to show that trailer before Wall-E and just.... wow. I can't believe this is the same company I grew up with. I'm honestly ashamed.

Sorry for being Debbie Downer. :p My boyfriend's niece and nephew want to see it. She likes Hannah Montana is why, but the boy just likes anything at all. He's also still in that very silly age where he thinks sequels are a great idea. Yikes.

All I've got is "Dun da dun dun dun, Inspector Gadget, dun da dun dun dun, WOO-OOOOO~"

It looks pretty exciting! Even the hamster has potential, and I generally dislike tiny hyperactive mascot creatures.

Er... the dramatic tv-show part at the beginning sounded better than Bolt's plot. :| It looks very vanilla and cookie-cutter to me. I mean, I'm enough of an animation nerd that I'm going to see it anyway, but it doesn't look like it'll be anything more exciting than "Dog thinks he's a superhero, tries to save girl, realizes he's not a superhero (thanks to cat, prolly), goes through a depression where he thinks he's useless, concludes that even though he's not a superhero he can still help Penny (who is by now probably ACTUALLY in trouble somehow) and he goes and does it and realizes that *gasp* he's kind of super in a way after all!'

Actually, that sounds a LOT like Buzz Lightyear's character progression in Toy Story.

From: [identity profile] bluejeans07.livejournal.com
The design looks great, the hamster and Bolt are ADORABLE! The animation looks fun and it should be interesting to watch. The story... well, it feels like a mixture of Toy Story and Rescue Rangers, Bolt is basically Buzz Lightyear with the cat as Woody. "YOU ARE A REGULAR DOG!" "You are a strange, sad little cat, who is my hostage!"

The trailer is slightly badly cut, repeating the same moment twice? Tsk.

I'm not sure how I feel. It certainly looks cute. And, I really like the designs (the shot of her father in the beginning looks really cool!) I also dig the colors. The animals all look cute, and the animation is nice.

I'm not digging Miley Cyrus.

And, I agree slightly with whoever said the animation looks kinda stiff on the humans. However, we don't get very many shots of them, so it may well just be becuase of how short the clips are.

It looks better than I expected it to look when I saw the poster in the theatre the other day.

I don't think I will like it as much as Meet the Robinsons, however.

Well it doesn't fill me with the soaring expectations I get from Pixar projects, but then...even WALL-E had me wondering. And it looks better than a lot of Disney in the last several years. So yeah, I'd see it with the nieces. But I wouldn't drag my girlfriend to it.

In short: I wish it well.
