Date: 2008-07-30 05:10 pm (UTC)I'm excited to find out how Tiana's a princess if she lives in America! I always assumed she married Prince Naveen and then became a princess, but she looks like she's already all princessy-looking when she's holding the frog.
Oh, if you're still suffering from Dr. Horrible withdrawal, I accidentally stumbled across a video of... Neil Patrick Harris. On Sesame Street. Playing a "shoe fairy." That sings. And wears sparkly wings. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDaszN9ByxM

Date: 2008-07-30 05:26 pm (UTC)I think the soundtrack is pretty good, myself – I know people are attached to Alan Menken but I don't see why he has to have a monopoly on Disney musicals. This is just as much of a proper musical as any of his, it's not a movie sprinkled with pop songs. Brother Bear had a number of problems, not least of which was Phil Collins, but this isn't anything like that, and it takes a lot more than disappointing soundtrack to sink a movie. Randy Newman did the soundtrack to Cats Don't Dance, too ... that had a great soundtrack despite being killed by WB.
As for the princess thing, well ... you'll just have to wait and see! Eeeheeheehee!

Date: 2008-07-31 02:16 am (UTC)The Phil Collins comment was that in the movies he wrote the songs for, the songs were more background music than sung by the characters, which made the songs seem more detached from the story, and I meant that I hope that the characters themselves would get to sing in "The Princess and the Frog" rather than having just Randy Newman singing narration. (Honestly, all I remember about Brother Bear was that I watched it with my sixth grade class on the last day of school, and the entire class was bawling, so I can't say much about the film on an artistic front.)
And yeah, I definitely bought Dr. Horrible, but you can only watch it so many times before it sinks in that no more new installments are coming... though I did start noticing little details like Billy taking over at the soup kitchen in "On The Rise," wearing a mustache and pouring the soup back into the pot. (And that the "Bad Horse" song can get very annoying on a car trip with two small children who love the song to bits.)

Date: 2008-07-31 04:29 pm (UTC)And ... how many times is that? >:D I've gone through the levels of appreciating story and music, found little details of joy, discovered subtle techniques on a purely auditory level, and am now delving into the vast level of enjoyment to be derived from stop-framing things (though this last one may be the nerdy domain of the animator and mind-bogglingly boring to anyone else). I'm determined to wear it out!
Thank you: your story of singing children has put the Saturday with two lines of 'Bad Horse' stuck in my head in perspective. :) By the way, is there any sort of definitive list of song titles? I've been having to pick whatever phrase seems representative but theres no guarantee anyone else knows what I'm talking about.

Date: 2008-07-31 01:19 am (UTC)Randy Newman "Ragtime." My fave soundtrack ever.
Hello from New Hampshire. And a B&B built in 1764. Tomorrow early I wake up and take a pic of a covered bridge about half a mile away. I'm going to the bridge, not taking the picture from half a mile away.
The animation looks terrific.
