JIN KIM HAS A BLOG

The world is that much of a better place, today.

He's one of my favourite artists at Disney, possibly my very favourite, but I haven't been able to find any of his artwork in an art book or anything so I can't show anyone why. Until now! Enjoy! With any luck he'll have a load of stuff in the Rapunzel art book, but that's a long way off yet ...

it is gorgeous. Especially the girl in the hanbok.

was he like the rumored person whose grad short got help from Eric Goldberg ad Don Hahn?

No no, Jin Kim's been around for a while. I think he worked on Tarzan, definitely on Treasure Planet, and was animation supervisor on Avatar for the first season if memory serves. You're probably thinking of Hyun-Min Kim, who is so good she drives long-standing professionals to despair, or at least to calling her the next Milt Kahl. I think (I think) 'help' in this case was mostly getting it a lot of attention and into festivals, which got it some rather nice awards, and in turn got her an O-1 visa. There might have been some production assistance and ... technology and stuff ... I know she finished her film in the summer so it wasn't exclusively a school project.

Oh cool 8D Cartoon Brew linked the blog yesterday or the day before. I plan on keeping a good eye on his blog.

Does Hyun-Min Kim have a blog?

Cartoon Brew linked him? But they don't like anything Disney (or at least anything not touched by the Nine Old Men). At least that would explain the Glen Keane hater comment ...

I don't know if Hyun-Min has a blog but I don't see it linked on the CalArts list ... I'll have to ask her when I get back. I haven't seen any of her artwork that's not job-related so I don't know how much blog fodder she has...

Strange, there's no animator listed under Hyun Min Kim according to google

... is she pretty small? And working under Eric Goldberg? My friend may have seen her at Siggraph!! He said artists were taking turns throughout the day at the Disney booth and that the girl he saw was animating the croc from Princess and the Frog, which Eric is the lead on, I think?

Yup, that was probably her. She's AWESOME. Her stuff is almost indistinguishable from Eric's sometimes.

Wicked. I talked to my friend who saw her and he said he actually spoke to her too, and that she was really shy. 8)
Hmm i really wish I could learn under someone that amazing :/

Argh, I'm sorry, she's Hyun-Min Lee, not Kim. Jin Kim, Shiyoon Kim, Hyun-Min Lee, Minkyu Lee. Too many mind-bogglingly awesome Koreans to keep track of! :) My apologies.

Minkyu Lee's stuff kills me. *wibble*

maybe we should eat kimchee to become better artists

Hyun-Min LEE. Lee. Not Kim. I fail at names. Rigorously reinforced first-name basis studio doesn't help.

Have you ever met him? Or at least caught a glimpse of him at the studio? That would be so awesome.
