Pratchett to petition the PM
Best-selling author Terry Pratchett is taking a petition to Downing Street where he will tell Gordon Brown that the UK faces "a tsunami of Alzheimer's disease" unless there is an increase in medical research funding.

More than 20,000 people have signed his petition. The writer, who himself has early stage Alzheimer's, told the BBC that in the next couple of decades the number of people with dementia would more than double.

At the above link you can find a competent young newsreader interviewing Mr Pratchett via giant virtual screen!

I don't know much about the U.K., but I know the U.S. is doing what it can to research early-onset Alzheimer's. I know a family that is participating in a major study, and all but one of the father's siblings carry the gene for the disease. It's a sad state when this man's children fear to start their own families. I glad to hear that Mr. Pratchett is reaching out, because people need to be made more aware of the damage caused by this terrible disease.

Somehow I managed to miss completely that Pterry had a new book out. When did that happen? o.O

And good on him; I hope the PM listens.
