I went to Hollywood Saturday night to see my sister's studio (very cool!) and wouldn't you know, there was some huge awards ceremony or something that had set up camp in the middle of town, shutting down the street and just generally being a hassle. Sheesh, who do they think they are, movie stars or something?

Anyway, while you're watching the Oscars tonight and seeing everyone's* best face, ONLY HERE do you get UNPRECEDEDNTED** BEHIND THE SCENES ACCESS! (i.e. The backs of things! Yay!)

Here's a secret about the Kodak Theatre: It's in a mall. A shopping mall. With shops. And a food court. You know that glittering corridor and stairway lined with red curtains and Oscar statues? The curtains cover the storefronts and the Oscars make it look fancy. This picture is looking toward the central courtyard area from across the street.

Ooh look, the audio-visual tent! Faaan-cee!

Closeup on wires and stuff.

The insides of the tents probably had red velvet and potted plants but this is what they looked like from the outside.

I just thought this was kinda cool (and soooooo Hollywood)

In trying to get back to the subway station we were detoured through the fire exits of the mall, which gave us the unexpected bonus of getting to see the main hallway from the back! This picture turned out blurry as the light was bad and I was kind of in a rush but it was neat anyway.

*Not least Hollywood's itself – it's not really the nicest part of town, the rest of the year.
**for a given value of 'unprecedented'

Precedented or not, I still find that mind-blowingly awesome :D

Man, you really live up to your advertising ^^

P.S: other than the nominated film directors does anyone in animation get access to all this needlessly grandeur celebration?

Nope, they have to stay at the Annies ... where they belong.

YES!
It's my second favorite movie. It's really wonderful, I highly recommend it. The visuals and colors and cinematography are really beautiful, not to mention it's just a great story.

Ooh, cool!

This is just like something that would happen to me. Seeing just the back of something, that is. ;)

Lol, I love how they make Hollywood seem all glamorous for one night but like you said, it really isn't for the rest of the year. I remember sort of going 'Oh... is this it?' when I saw it. Lol.

After working at LACE (on Hollywood Blvd), I have very low expectations of that place. It's hilarious to see it all decked out. Gotta love that velvet paneling around the palm!
