A scandalously long time ago I asked for commissions, only to enter into my longest period of uninterrupted employment and not have time to do them. To the best of my knowledge I have finished all but one, now (sorry, Syd! It's coming!), so if you asked for one and haven't gotten it please let me know and I'll try to see what went wrong.

Anyway, here was one from a friend of mine who'd moved to a tiny little town in northern BC where her husband joined the volunteer fire department and she joined the firefighters' wives club. She commissioned me to do the artwork for a t-shirt for them, which would be along the lines of 'our firefighters enjoy their job so much they don't even take their gear off in bed.'

Wow, the colours look really terrible now ... I hope it's just my funky monitor.

I love your style so much, I love that you gave her face unique proportions but still kept her beautiful. They are totally going to love this I'm sure.

Haha, it feels good to give myself points for unconventional beauty but truth be told I can't draw a 'pretty' girl to save my life. And sometimes that's what people want.

The colors look okay to me. I think I would have made the sheet a different color--but of course, I like bright colors, so maybe it's just me.

The face mask makes it even funnier. :)

Fantastic!

After your comment, I thought about the colors some. I think the grey blanket & bed might be clashing with the warmth of his uniform colors (and the warmth of her outfit and hair are also pulling away from the cool blue-grey. I'd change the color for the blanket and bedpost to something warmer, maybe brown, or a warmer grey, and I think everything should balance nicely.

See, I wanted to attract attention to the figures in the bed, and usually the eye is drawn to warmer, more saturated colours, so making the blanket warm would have muddied it all. It seems obvious now I should have coloured it blue, duh. And her colours are a bit weird as well, her lingerie probably should have been brighter or more purply than whatever that weird burgundy colour is, and maybe giving her dark hair would have brought more contrast and attention to her facial area ... oh well, live and learn.
