I made a reference to Scott in the last entry, and like MAGIC what should appear on my doorstep* but a slideshow!

Freeze Frame: Photos from Polar Expeditions

Neat stuff all around. The picture at 2:35, in the lower left, I think that's Cherry, if you wanted to know what he actually looked like but hadn't done a Google search at all.

I'm talking to myself here, aren't I? Off to print some stereoscopes ...

*Actually the 'In Pictures' page on BBC News, but I'm there so much it's practically home.

Thanks for posting this, it was really interesting to see what the journey to the South Pole looked like, and "felt" like, back then. And since I've never read or seen videos about Scott's expedition, I pretty much just cursed out loud when it came to the part "only to discover that they had been beaten by the Norwegians."
Poor Scott, but plenty of great pictures to show for it!

I think of him every time I hear of someone doing something like walking across Antarctica solo - but knowing the lay of the land and having the benefit of modern clothing and communication. There is danger, yes, but nothing like walking into the Great Unknown.

Tealin, I bought a book on Antarctic exploration for a friend for Christmas (he and his wife were in the group i saw Terra Nova with - we have all been interested in Scott ever since), so when I checked my Amazon recommendations yesterday, what should pop up but Cherry's book! I of course immediately thought of you.
