So ... what was up with Bastille Day this year?

I mean, not in France; obviously there were parades and fireworks and stuff. I mean in the U.S. of A. I never remember this much attention being paid to Bastille Day outside of 'Learning about the culture is just as important as learning the language' bloody useless French class. Did I just never notice it before? Is it a California thing?* Or is it, as I cynically suspect, because we have a new administration and thus it's OK to not hate France anymore so anyone with an international perspective is celebrating this by overcompensating?

*very much doubt this

I didn't hear anything about it, which isn't surprising, considering Indiana is, as I like to say, the buttcrack of nowhere. No one knows anything around here, and worse, no one cares.

Which is why I'm fleeing the state as soon as I graduate from college.

Funny, I felt exactly the same about Utah ... it must be quite a wide buttcrack. ;)

You know, for someone who seems to be opposed to stereotyping and sweeping generalizations, I thought that was an awfully Utahphobic comment!

It was entirely in keeping with the representative sample of Utah with which I was familiar, Avenues Boy! :) Anyway, it's regarding How I Felt While Living There, not The Truth About What It Is Actually Like.

Ok. fine. I know you were miserable there, and not without cause. I know that nearly everyone you meet seems to feel the same way about Utah. But "The Buttcrack of Nowhere"? No one knows anything around here, and worse, no one cares"?? Feh, I say. I might smile and laugh off these daggers in my side, if you'd said that that's how you felt about your neighborhood, and/or your school, instead of the entire state of Utah, which would include my home, my family, and 90% of the people I care most about in all the world (not all of whom reside in the Avenues), OR if you had ever, like, you know, said anything to the effect that you didn't STILL feel that way, or that you really didn't think that's what it all WAS actually like! (sob!) You...you big meanie!

I am a meanie, I can't deny it. :) But I am also the Cintiq fairy! If I'd known you were coming back this weekend I might have been the Cintiq fairy on Friday night instead (sorry...).

LOL! Oh, it's OK - I was only in town from Saturday afternoon to Sunday morning, and I spent all that time:
-trying to find my house keys
-trying to charge my dead phone
-trying to call a taxi with skype on my busted computer (because my car was parked at work!)
-trying to call with skype on my busted laptop
-waiting at the verizon store (after walking there) for more than an hour for them to tell me there wasn't really anything wrong with my phone
-looking at work for my best piece of vis/dev art in years, and not finding it
-going back to the verizon store, which was now closed
-going back to the verizon store again with my busted plug, which they said they'd replace if my phone still wouldn't charge, only to find out that they coudn't find my account, so I had to buy a new one after all, and -
-repacking and cleaning up my house (in anticipation for my girlfriend/mother's arrival in 3 weeks) with whatever time/energy I had left.
Not that I am at all bitter. ;)
