One of my New Year's Resolutions was to become less than completely crap at watercolour. I'd like to be able to do watercolour sketches while travelling, but in order to get anything that isn't embarrassing you've got to be comfortable with the medium, which means practise, practise, practise.Back when it was crunch time on Pooh, one of the visual development people led a class on watercolour. I came to the first one but couldn't make the others on account of, y'know, having a job to do, but at least it gave me a basic grounding in some of the ideas of wet and dry application, layering, etc.
My initial independent attempts were less than encouraging ...

It would have been easy to blame being on the train but really, there's just a fundamental lack of technique there.
There was a gorgeous sunrise this morning, though, so I thought I'd give it another go, and was pleased to see something must have sunk in in the last couple weeks.

It's not as brilliant as the real thing, obviously, but: progress!... I've never had a role model before – not a real one – I may be overcompensating. But I did not have cocoa this morning!
I had cocoa on Monday.
Shut up, I like cocoa.
Heehee!
