Another story from Tealin's email inbox:

This morning I recieved an email that basically went like this:

"I like your drawings! Please draw me! Here's my picture!"

(There were a lot more smileys and exclamation marks than that, but for the sake of brevity... ) This is not the first such email I have recieved, and I don't get them that often, but what takes the cake is that I just answered this person with a polite but firm "no" this weekend, and they go and send it again!

[sigh]

Okay, I have work to do.

Oh, in case anyone was wondering: I am Severe Lack of Time Girl! I can't illustrate your fanfic or draw a caricature of you* or design your characters no matter how much I would like to. Your best bet is to become a published author and have your book put on tape and have it interest me enough that I pick it up from the library and listen to it at work, where it will inspire me to doodle up some sketches on my commute.

Today, I have a concentration power of -28. Is ADD contagious? [Place Clone High quote here]

*Unless you happen to be on the same bus as me, have an interesting face, don't look in my direction, and pick a day when I actually feel like sketching on the bus.

I am Severe Lack of Time Girl!

Wasn't she in the Legion of Super-Heroes along with Impending Deadline Woman and Procrastination Lass?

Seriously, it amazes me how many people seem to think that fan artists exist for no other purpose than to draw stuff, on demand, for free. I can see a polite inquiry like, "Do you ever plan to draw such-and-such a scene from such-and-such a book I know we both like?" or even "Do you ever do commissions?" but the whole "I like your stuff! So draw this, right now! And I've included a photo reference because I feel so confident you'll want to do it!" thing is... weird.

It's a compliment though, that she likes your work enough to want a drawing from you. ... ... ... Ok, stop looking at me like that, she was a little rude. Was she cute though? I'm always a sucker for the cute ones…heh heh.

Btw, can you draw me? I'll sit on your desk and even take my shirt off! *wink, wink*. Seriously though, ummm... you should send her to the drawing forum, they sometimes have a thread where you can post your pic up and people can take a stab at drawing you. Although it's funny when people demand there pic to get drawn and they have all these specifications, people either ignore it, or tell them off. Heh, anyways I better get to work...soooo lazy when I'm on break. Laterz.

Well, yes, it's a compliment, in a way, but it's a rather self-absorbed one. What's particularly annoying is that I just said no. And I think she's too young for you...

"The Drawing Forum"? You mean Shane Glines?

Heh, I'm far more likely to draw you if you clothed yourself in period costume, rather than disrobed... but I doubt you could find anywhere on my desk to sit!

I think it is a compliment, it shows how popular your drawings are (if you didn't know that already) but it is wierd... I can perfectly comprehend asking you to draw book-characters, but my goodness, who actually WANTS to see a caricature of themselves? I certainly don't!

yes, Shane Glines.... although now it's not really Shane Glines. He's doing his own projects and the board is now called "The Drawing Forum" I think, or something on those lines.

I have a published book. *sniffles* Does that mean you'll draw me and my funny nose of doom?

Sheesh. 1) People are so weird. People ask for me to draw them at times and I have to say, "Err... I can't draw well, people!" So then they ask for me to write them.

2) You change your nick name too often. :)
