The little bundle isn't an egg sac, or leftovers, but the spider's little conical house where it hides from rain, sun, and my spray bottle. The centre of the web is linked to it by a few strands of silk so if something lands in it the vibrations can be felt. It's quite an elaborate construction, actually, and the spider re-spins the web nearly every day. He(?)'s been there for a few weeks now, so I guess it's a good spot, though I've never seen him catch anything.
