Adventure Time: Random London I
Sep. 15th, 2014 09:39 pmI have been granted an uncommon boon: reasonable working hours and temporary lodgings near enough that I'm not spending two hours on the train every day. I will probably end up frittering away my time when I get used to the arrangement, but for my first day I thought I'd better catch up on all those darn photos.
I've not caught up all the way, but have got enough scraped together to start posting. And so, I present,
RANDOM SIGHTS IN LONDON, Part the First
or, What Happened to Be on my Camera and Not my Phone
Because I have Not Yet Plugged In the Latter

There is a side alley off Charing Cross Road that is full of bookshops. The buildings are covered in glazed tiles. I had not noticed this before.

I read recently that New York is tearing down its overhead walkways because no one is using them anymore. Who cares if fast elevators have made them obsolete, they are COOL BEANS, and should be kept around on the basis of awesomeness. Put a canteen in there or something if no one is using it as an aerial sidewalk. This one is magnificently crowning a street down from Charing Cross to the river.

The Maple Leaf Pub, employer of young Canadians on Student and Youth Mobility visas, only fails to be truly Canadian by being so darn Canadian. I don't know if that makes sense to anyone outside Canada.

Tea HQ

Australia House: Needs more Kangaroos.

A Tree Grows in London – this is somewhere around Drury Lane, but reminded me of the famous tree in 'Wall Street' at Bryce National Park.

Unexpected ... a little out of context.

The miso aubergines at Kopapa Cafe have changed my life. Miso. Aubergines.

Our neighbours have a barbecue thing(?) that, through the hole, shows enough of the rack behind it to look a bit like a demented version of the Kumon face (which has baffled me as a logo; it looks mildly unhappy and confused which is not what I would want from a tutoring company).

I know it's the cause of a lot of grumbling, but I love the English weather. Firstly, because there is weather. Second, it keeps you on your toes. Third, you get things like this. I mean, wow.

OK, now that's just showing off.
And now, with thirst for photoimage sated
The 'net, I trust, shall skulk away replete
And I, its teeth and claws no longer fearing
(If it be they, and not mine own guilt's howls)
Can happily procrastinate again.
