Watch the news.

Or listen to it on the radio. Or seek it out from a reliable source online. Democracy is dependent on well-informed citizens.

Heard of it in the radio while on an end of year trip. Most of my mates had families in London , and seems that a teacher's father was there.
Se me ha venido el alma abajo...

I happened to be on the phone with a friend when I herd the news. I creid out so loud she thought I was dying. I've been in a state of shock all morning- it's just TERRIBLE!

Also, there is a very informative 2-hour special on CNN.

I watched BBC 1 and ITV all this morning, and gads it was stupid. They kept looping the same footage over and over, and then going off into wild speculations about what had happened to cover up the fact that they knew nothing.

It's an awful thing - the worst of it for my family is that my aunt and uncle live on Tavistock Square! Luckily they were both at work, but they have to go to their daughter's flat tonight because it's still cordonned off.

Oh, and Blair's speeches were spot on. Good on him for coming back but letting the meetings go on. I was very impressed with his handling of the situation.

True, I just thought that people would start messing up with Blair, but seems that most people are satisfied with his decision. Anybody knows when will the G8 end?

Death toll is 37. Over 700 injured. That's just awful, people. I hate it when these things happen. Just yesterday London was celebrating because they had won the bid for the 2012 Olympics, and now this. Makes you wonder where they'll strike next. Canada? I hope not.

My Aunt would have been at one of the station, 'cuase she goes to the hospital every morning to vist my uncle, but thankfully she had a late night and slept in.

Teh suckyness...

I heard on the news, it seemed so surreal. Thank god more people weren't hurt... reminds me somewhat of the chemical attacks on subways in Asia. Are they certain Al Queda's behind it? It was orchestrated right after London's win concerning the Olympics, but it seems to have been planned for a long time. Unfortuante coincidence? Aggh, it gets me mad, because you can never fully beat those guys...
Again, my condolence to all London and anyone who's been affected...

I think everyone is thinking they're next ... here in Canada everyone's anxious about being on Bin Laden's 'list' and people are even saying we're the only one on there not to have been attacked yet, but I don't know how accurate that is.

nono we actually got a warning! Denmark and Italy is pointed out. If we dont take out troups out of Iraq we might be bombed!

Date: 2005-07-09 04:21 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com
Canada's warning was part of the list mentioned after Afghanistan was invaded. We aren't in on Iraq, but we've still got troops in Afghanistan ... more than ever, in fact, since we helped take over from the US and Britain when they had to pull their troops out to go to Iraq.

This is the "great" thing about terrorism - now everyone's afraid that they're next. The only thing to do is just get on with life, and show them we're unafraid.

Did you read what that Al-Qeada group said? It's quite creepy.

Yup! Time to resurrect the spirit of the Blitz. (which was much worse... but at least they were playing 'fair.')

Date: 2005-07-09 05:44 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] sparrowofjack.livejournal.com
I guess that depends on your definition of "fair". Why do they think that bombing/attacking their fellow countries is going to solve anything? If anything, itll just scare people and make the countries angry at them.

Terrorists confuse me.

From: [identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com
Well, at least when the Nazis bombed London, they used airplanes whose noisy approach allowed air raid sirens to be sounded and people to get to relatively safer places. As far as wars go, that's about as fair as you can get.

Date: 2005-07-09 05:50 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] sparrowofjack.livejournal.com
Remind me to thank the Nazis the next time I see them. (rolls eyes)

Sorry. That was a little bitter. But I just dont like this at all. I mean, what gives people the right to make others live in fear?

Date: 2005-07-09 06:01 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com
Oh, nothing at all gives anyone that 'right,' and I hope no one thinks I'm backing up this atrocious behaviour, but unless someone masters precognition or short-term time travel, there is unlikely to be an 'imminent terrorist attack' siren.

Date: 2005-07-09 07:32 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] romani-lily.livejournal.com
I know. We can attach all suspected terrorists with little collars with bells. So like when you try to find Piddles you know where he is in the garden, we can know when a terrorist is coming.

*gets shot sould frying looks*

Yeah, well. . . I know for a fact I'm not the only souless person here. ;)

Just trying to lighten the mood

That would be amusing... but it would probably get a lot of people angrily upholding the whole 'innocent until proven guilty' thing.

I was at school when we got the news.
They wouldn't tell us anything, and i think that made us more scared than if they had told us what was happening.
We ended up turning the tv on before history, and getting yelled at by the teacher, but at least we knew what was going on.
Two of my freinds had family in london. One of them couldn't get through to her dad, and when she finally did , she couldn't stop crying.
This world is crazy.
