GOP Gospel: Enemies
Mar. 13th, 2021 01:57 pmDay 21 of my Lent project. For background, please read this.
A reading from the Gospel according to the GOP:
Matthew 5:43-48
"You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbour and hate your enemy.' But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be children of your Father in heaven; for he makes his sun rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and on the unrighteous. For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax-collectors do the same? And if you greet only your brothers and sisters, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect."
A reading from the Gospel according to the GOP:
"You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbour and hate your enemy.' Indeed there is much wisdom in this, for who is there to hate but your enemy, and what is your enemy for, but to hate? If your enemy were not deserving of hatred, they would not be your enemy. No one hates another without justification. Love those who love you, and extend the hand of friendship to those who agree with you, for this is how a society is unified, and only a strong unified society can withstand the onslaught of the unrighteous."
