I just subj introduced a former roommate, who is a diehard Pirates* fan, to Master & Commander. She was very polite and watched it all the way through.

I LOVE THAT MOVIE WOOOOOO!!!

And, you know, I've seen it at least fifty times ... and I still caught something new. There was about twenty seconds of footage when they're lowering Calamy's first command into the water that I swear I have never seen before. What will it be next time, I wonder?

*The movie that always makes me want to watch M&C – I see ten minutes of it, and I think, 'you know what's a really good movie ...'

M&C is such a fantastic film. Your friend didn't like it?

I keep hoping that they might make a second film, but then again, they might screw it up.

I don't know if she liked it ... she's more of a romantic comedy type of person. But she did say 'it's got everything' ... a vague comment which I'm going to interpret in a positive way.

I loved Pirates, but kindof got burnt out on it. You see it so many times, and then you can say the words, and see the pictures in your head, so what's the use of twatching it again (other than to look at Johnny Depp being a genius some more.)

Master and Commander, though. Those kind of films I can watch forever and never have burn out periods. Sometimes I get in a naval sort of mood and watch this and the first Horatio Hornblower miniseries by turn.

You see new things? Lucky... I think I had an overactive imagination when I was little (still do, really ._. ) because whenever I'd see a movie, I'd watch it again two weeks later and SWEAR there was a scene or two missing. I'm still convinced the government secretly cut out a scene in Labyrinth...

Loving the Muppet Treasure Island quote. I'm such a nautical film loving loser, I bought a second copy of that movie so I could have it on DVD.

And I agree, Pirates serves one purpose, and that is to remind the view of MandC.

I'm glad I haven't bought the Muppet Treaure Island DVD yet because I heard rumours of the 90s Muppet movies getting 'Special Editions." I'm holding out hope that they will abandon their sinful fullscreen ways and give it some nice letterboxing.

Pirates just isn't REAL! Look how tidy their ships are! Look how tidy their sailors are! And what, you can sail a whole ship with just TWO PEOPLE, one of whom is absolutely inexperienced in nautical ways?? Puh-leez! Oh man, I'm getting the movie lust again. Ngrh! It's just so good!!

I like Pirates, but it will never be MandC. Or Hornblower. Or even Muppet Treasure Island.

I know what you mean about movie lust. I'm in Halifax right now, over 1000 miles away from home, and extrememly glad I carted along my laptop so I could watch MandC and Hornblower. I both love and hate my geekery.

The "two people sailing a whole ship" was just so unreal :P . "Pirates" it's a funny movie to watch once, twice in a month, and watch it again some years later. But MnC always comes into mind while watching the battles ^^ there are many more things to watch there.
Are they really to make a special edition on "Muppet Treasure Island"? Wow! I haven't seen that movie for some time! Hope they release it in Spain too :)

Oh dear! XD That cracked me up because it's so true. M&C is so much better.

Pirates is "nautical adventure-lite". But what do you expect; it's Disney, darling ;)

Psh, Pirates of the Caribbean. The movie that made everyone love Johnny Depp and me go 'buh?' It was okay, but . . . for heaven's sakes, he could be your father. :(

I think I need to see MandC again. Honestly, I never expected to want to watch it again after the first time, but now I really do.
