For the sake of an update....

Nobby goes, um ... plainclothes. And sees a dragon.

Okay, I rather blatanly stole those shoes. I coudn't think of what sort of shoes to give him and those ones were just sitting there in my mental shoe closet waiting to be used, so there you go. I believe there are several references to Nobby stealing shoes, so at least it's in character.

Nobby is one of the few characters whose depiction by Paul Kidby I don't completely agree with – he's got the essential Nobbyness, but as far as physical features go he just looks, to me, like a shrunken-down Rincewind with spots. This isn't exactly how I pictured him, either (Nobby's image is very shifty in my mind, appropriately) but it's the closest I've gotten yet, so I've got a starting place, at least.

Oh yes, and that hand – I drew it over the gutter in my sketchbook and then couldn't decide on how I wanted the fingers to go so it's a bit of a monstrosity. Sorry.

Your Nobby reminds me of Teller (of the Penn and Teller team). I got his autograph in Vegas. Not only did I hear him utter a sound, but he was even trying to flirt with me. =-|

I wasn't sure I agreed with you over the validity of Kidby's Nobby, since he'd been how I had imagined him, but having looking at your Nobbs, I must say I am in awe. Again, damn you and your ability! He looks like he wants to sidle right into the alley behind my browser. Hope you get Thud! soon.

I know it's not Beti, but (s)he always was my favorite facet of Nobby. He folk-dances, or something like, right? The thing about Nobby, is that he's got to be really unimaginably hideous. And you always want to romanticize a likeable figure, so he never really quite turns out as grotesque as he should. It's a lot easier to imagine a face with boils on it than a boil with facial features on it, right? xD Whatever, though, seriously; I love your picture of him.
