Twenty-four hours to Thud! on the wall,*
Twenty-four hours to Thud!
Take one down, fill it up with work and sleep and stuff and try not to think about how long an hour is,
Twenty-three hours to Thud! on the wall!

*Because hours are traditionally measured on clocks, and most clocks can be found on walls.

Will you be posting any spoilers? I haven't gotten it yet (and probably won't even have it in 24 hours), and Pratchett's plots are too good to find out the climax early. Comparing them with JKR's is like the Great A'Tuin versus Om.

If I mention any spoilers, they will be clearly marked.

I agree 100%. In writing as well – I'm reading one of his earlier books right now (Sourcery) and came across this description of a staff:
"It was made of a black metal, with a meshwork of silver and gold carvings that gave it a rich and sinister tastelessness..."
What a perfect description. And he's only improved. Not to mention the absence of excessive silly romances. The few there are are not silly and are entirely believable as reflected in the characters' thoughts and behaviour. He has utterly spoiled me.

I know!!! I just read an early one (Equal Rites) and the improvement of his style and characterization is amazing! I can't wait for Thud!
