In a rare show of impatience, Tealin today declared her allegiance to the twenty-first century and ordered her copy of Thud!, the newest book in Terry Pratchett's Discworld series, from online distributor amazon.ca. When asked about this betrayal of the traditional bookstore, she commented, 'If the largest and most powerful book chain in the country can't get it onto their shelves the day after it's released, then ... yeah.' While the purchasing process took mere moments and involved absolutely no walking at all, she conceded it wasn't as instantaneous a gratification as people would believe. 'I don't expect to get it before Thanksgiving,' she said. 'In fact, I'd be surprised if it got here before Thursday.' She hoped the bookstores would 'get their butts in gear' before then, and if she did happen to find a copy before hers arrived, she would probably go in and 'look at the back cover, and maybe read the jacket flap several times,' but not actually purchase it. Chapters declined to comment on the specifics of this case, merely stating that the book was available for purchase on their website as well. Tealin responded with a derisive laugh, 'Ha ha ha.'

Tealin meets Cintiq

Today at work ... I got springboarded into The Future of Animation. It's a giant tablet screen that you draw on. Duuude.

If you are looking for her, have a look down the road a bit and there you'll find her. Just round the bend.

The collective bookstores of the world were disappointed, but acknowledge the fact that the most important thing, after all, is the book.

And YAY! update!

I know, I know, but it wouldn't all fit. In penance, I've started wearing all the scarves I own as neckcloths instead.

Ahh, Tealin, I wish I could send you a copy! Although, I guess that wouldn't be anymore gratification then ordering off amazon was.
On a light note, The US library systems have finally realized the need for more Tarry Pratchett books. To my great pleaser, I found "Only You Can Save Mankind" on my library website. I'll be reading it after i'm done with Thud! and A Hat Full of Sky.

After I got on my local library's book-picking-out committee (as "the one who picks out the YA books because she's the only young adult who goes to the library") I got them to get Going Postal. It was so lovely, seeing it there on the shelf ...

But who will spur them to putchase Thud while I am at university? *grieves*

I've found that amazon.ca usually deliver ahead of schedule for stuff they have in stock. I bet you do get it before the estimated delivery date.

It's not amazon.ca I'm doubting, it's Canada Post ... though to be fair, I haven't had much opportunity to test non-international postal service. We'll see. It'll keep me on my toes.

Ah, Canada Post. I just can't decide whether I dislike Canada's or the US's postal service more. Which is why I plan to move to a country where the mail goes four times a day.

The only place that I belive runs mail that often is a very much loved fictional place, surrounded by cabbage countryside.

Poor dear Tealin. With all the troubles you've had, I'd have demanded Carrot personally deliver it. In nothing but the protective. X____X

Good luck, dearie!

Sadly, yes. But I'll see if I can't flog Carrot into doing it anyways....

OMG. You got to use one of the orgasmic tablets? I've seen them in displays but never got to use them....
(Not that I can complain. I love my Wacom very, very much)

Sorry if I sound stupid, but what exactly IS tablet? My brain keeps deciding to interperete it as a big stone slab.

Date: 2005-10-06 05:53 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com
A tablet is a tool slightly like a mouse, but instead of a lump of plastic that you place your hand on horizontally, there is a sensitive pad and a pencil-shaped stylus tat you hold, well, like a pencil. It feels more natural to draw that way. And it's pressure-sensitive, so the harder you push the larger the brush on the computer gets. The one I got is itself a screen, which you draw on with the stylus. It's wicked.

Tealin, do you really never wear pants?!
I must say, I find that quite charming.

From: [identity profile] tulanoodle.livejournal.com
Well, she only really owns one pair. A very well worn pair that she has had for probably over five years would you say?

From: [identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com
Hey, I've got those short pants for the summer! two pair, even!

And if we're using British vocabulary, I wear pants all the time, thank you.

I sincerely hope you cover your legs when you're out, Miss. We wouldn't want the local lads fainting away at the sight of a feminine ankle. It's good to know that someone's still upholding the old standards, what?

Welcome back

Good luck with Thud! It's well worth the wait.

Re the giant tablet: coooool! I never got the hang of drawing at an angle... is that your usual modus operandi? How does the surface work? Is it fragile, like a laptop screen, or tough like a regular tablet?

You're extremely cute, btw. Is that a tablet drawing?

Huzzah! Round the Bend update! And you reminded me it existed! (for shame, pyri v_v)

Ohhh, it's you! And a weirdly tablet doodah! Spiffeh.

Also your drawing makes me ridiculously happy for no good reason.
