In a brief article on Animated News:

"Pettler, who took on duties for Tim Burton's Corpse Bride and wrote the script in a month..."

This ... explains ... EVERYTHING.

Unfortunately, it does. It's not a bad movie (personally I'd give it a B) but it wasted so many chances. And it had no point. It just went back and forth. There are some truly rewarding moments in it...but for 90 percent of the movie it's like you're watching a very bland volleyball match. Unfortunately.

More importantly from the article: they're updating Bedknobs and Broomsticks!? Why!? It's already great! And who's butts are the enchanted suits of armour going to kick? The Al-Qaeda in a submarine? I hate you Disney, so very, very much.

They could still set it in WWII ... it's a perrenial source of no-contest bad guys. No one minds if you kill a bunch of Nazis.

They probably want to play with their computers some more.

"Nazi's! I hate those guys!"

As much as I'd love to see that happen, I just can't even see Disney thinking of that possibility. They'll use the exuse of 'updating it for this generation'. And I'd put money on the odds that they move the setting to somewhere in the US. I just know it. And the animals, (undersea and soccergame) they'll be CG. I just know it.

I sound so bitter, but Disney has let me down so many times...

Of course the animals will be CG, they'll want to make it look like they're really there – I'm sure if the 1960s (or whenever it came out) animators had had CG at their disposal, they'd have used it.

They didn't 'update' Narnia, which has the same wartime background... but then, if they had, a million fans would boycott the movie. Who knows. Maybe they will, maybe they won't.

HA!

Haha! This makes me think of a Victoria Wood sketch about a script...

Q. So, how long did it take you to write "Bessie!" (the musical in question)

A. Well, we got together over a bottle of whiskey, and all told, it took us two days. One day to write the script, and another to think up the exclamation mark.
