Upon listening to the audio edition of The Penultimate Peril, I have come to a realisation:

The symbol for the Summoning Dark from Thud! is a perfect visual depiction of the course of the Series of Unfortunate Events. The story starts at Briny Beach, revolves episode after episode around a mysterious and foreboding eye insignia, comes full circle back to Briny Beach, then slips further on downhill.

Hmmmmmmmm.

I hope, when the series is over, they come out with a CD of all the songs they put on the audio books. It'd be nice to listen to them without being interrupted by 'Harper Audio presents...' and be able to hear the second verse of the crows song without having to check out the cassette.

I'm reading Thud again, and am still finding the Summoning Dark absolutely un-terrifying. On a scare factor, the symbol rates at about 0 (along with the Ra-zac of Eragon!) I wonder if Pratchett meant it to be that way, or if he actually wanted it to be scary?

I find it more just sort of ... eerie. In that way most unexplained and/or ancient insignia are.
