Most important:
Small Gods episode two!

Less important:

At the hotel, waiting to meet my cousins for dinner and making costume notes for my sister who was working on a design assignment.

Some bus people, Lupin and Tonker (hahaha), and my subversive commentary. My, I have been snarky lately. Oh yes, and the seal has a long backstory that I don't feel like going into right now; maybe at lunch.

I adore the bespeckled bus person on the far right.

Hello there!

I LOVE (LOVE L-O-V-E) the Biblical verse protesters. I admit I exploded in laughter at work and caused everyone to think I am even more insane than I am (if that is considered possible). :-)

I think your subtle and intelligent humor is the big reason why I like reading this Live Journal.

You are too flattering. :)

It, um ... Actually I was intending for it to be a sporting event, because in the States (I don't know about anywhere else as I haven't been subjected to sport broadcasts since I moved away) there are always people in the crowd holding up signs or wearing shirts or painting their bare chests [shudder] with 'John 3:16'* ... so I thought I'd respond in kind.

Why?

Are so many people attempting to tell John what time it is? Any why is it always the same time? is it the old "A stopped clock is correct twice a day thing?"

That was a cute comment! Thanks! I needed an evening laugh! Also, is your rabbit icon influenced by "Watership Down?"

Yep. The artist, who shall remain unnamed, thought I reminded her of Bigwig. I was thinking more like Hazel. After all, would Bigwig read her a big book about rabbits, cover to cover, at bedtime, when she was 5 years old . . and her sister too? No. Hazel would, but not Bigwig. I suppose I should be glad she did not draw me as The General.

Bigwig would so read stories to his kids – look at that scene at the end where he's teaching them how to fight and stuff. Yeah.

You do write some funny stuff! I loved the King Kong notes as well.

Yes, I see what you are saying now about the Sport Events. I have not been to many of them myself (outside of soccer), so I did not realize that some of my countrymen are prose- er- proset- er getting all religious at sport events. Your cartoon just really cracked me up since there are so many places where Bible verses are showing up. I am a pretty devout Christian but it seems so awkward to me. I like jokes that make me do a double take like this. Kind of reminds me of Keith Knight's seriously funny cartoons "(Th)ink", "The K Chronicles" and "Life's Little Victories"

I kind of also assume that some of these people (the ones sporting "John 3:16" signs) are at least well-intentioned, meaning to "witness" of Christ's mercy and divinity rather than brag publicly about their own righteousness (at least, that was my intention on my mission, successful or not). My problem with it is that, unless the other spectators are already bible scholars, the reference would be meaningless to them (or people could assume all kinds of possible messages without bothering to look them up - thus easily identifying the sign-carriers as preachy, judgemental, and/or self-righteous), because people who attend sporting events aren't typically looking for that particular kind of spiritual experience. So what's the point? Seems ineffective at best and probably inappropriate. Of course, nowadays I've become so paranoid and fearful about being misunderstood (or disliked) that I tend to avoid discussing my religious beliefs anywhere - to the point where some people might assume I'm ashamed of my faith, which also bothers me. All the same, there is definitely something to be said for showing some tact and sensitivity to other people's beliefs (or lack therof) by not being too pushy about your own.
On a lighter note, I thought the Tonks/Lupin gag was really funny and I agree with the compliments on her pose!

Too true for me too.

Hey I think I recall some friends of mine who are into wrestling mention that a long time ago. Some guy was holding up a sign like that. It has something to do with a certain wrestlers gimmick I think. I can't remember what it was exactly but it was a wrestling thing. I'm not sure if the signs you've seen in sporting events are related in any way to what I'm saying, but this reminded me of that.

Tonker has a good 'coiled spring with fists' look there.
I giggle at the aqualung seal (or whatever that is). And now I'm going to go and check the Bible.
...
OK, I'm back. Those Matthew verses are the ones with The Lord's Prayer in them. I don't get it, but it's still funny. A lot of things are funny at half-past ten at night. They're even funnier once you get back into single-figure hours.

Hahaha, Dorfl.

The Matthew verses are the ones about not being like the hypocrites, who pray in the open where everyone will see them, etc.

Actually, that's one of my favorite sections of the Bible. So many people forget about it.

Aww, Tonker! Let Lupin give you a hug! Heeheehee!

Ahh, Matthew 6: 1-18. I always liked that bit, because it was one of the easy instructions. Of course to hold up a sign for it rather defeats the purpose.

*cracks up at Lupin and Tonker*
