Choir resumed this week (i.e. earlier this evening) for the Spring term and we are singing Carmina Burana which is a heck of a lot of fun even if I know just enough Latin that the words make me feel dirty. I think I shall sing second soprano because I just can't sing that many As and Bs for the duration of the piece... We're also singing a setting of Lewis Carroll's "Jabberwocky" which is tremendous amounts of amusement as well. Then there's the added benefit of singing in neato languages line Xhosa (?) and Australian Aborignal.

Another good thing about choir is that in between the Women's Choir and Festival Chorus rehearsals I get about fifteen minutes alone with my sketchbook, and this week was particularly productive:

... In blatant mimicry of the Amazing Mr. Helquist. I don't remember if he drew this particular character, but here she is anyway. The mysterious ... K!

This drawing has made me positively squirm with excitement. Thank you.

Oo. VERY cool interpretation. I like how you gave her a subtle resemblance to your drawing of Jaques. I love the gloves (how canon of you) and the elegant hair and face. Very pointy nose. Keep it up :-D

You can tell they're gloves? Awesome! I was worried no one would get that but me, I mean, nothing on them says "GLOVES." Though, you have read the book, so maybe you had that preconcieved notion.
And, well, she IS Jacques's twin sister. One would think they would look alike... though I know a girl with a twin brother and they don't look all that similar. I'm just worried she looks too much like Violet, or like the girl you had as your icon for a while... but then, there is a sort of "stylistic consistency" to Helquist's designs, as fabulous as he is.

Help! I need more Jacques drawings! Any ideas?

You could do a VFD memo about his absence.

Or his dead corpse. Whatever you want.

Oh you know what would be COOL?! If you took a crack at drawing that photograph that the Baudelairs find... the one of Jacques, Lemony, and Mr. and Mrs. Baudelaire. ...but then again we're not supposed to know what the Baudelaires look like..... well in that case, I think it'd be cool if you did one of Jacques and Lemony, I'm not sure the context. And the seams give a good hint that she's wearing gloves. :-D

Jacques and Kit are twins? how did I miss that? WHere is it?

I'm not sure exactly... I had always wondered why their branches looked the way they did on the family tree, and then I found out they were twins and said "Ohhh, THAT's why!" Now I can't remember where. I shall take the bio with me on the bus and try to find it, mwahahaha. Provided it's in there, of course. Who knows. So many mysteries.

I am rather in love with that photograph... maybe I'll take a stab at it.

I just realized ... I think it's in one of the notes at the end of The Bad Beginning (Rare Edition). I won't have access to mine until late tonight because I'm going to a dinner party (not hosted by any duchesses, though I cannot guarantee Madame diLustro will not attend in disguise) - Bananabasket, you've got a copy - could you verify this finnicky detail?

Drat ... it's not there.

WHERE did I read that??

I'm not sure if you DID read that. I always thought that we had come up with that theory. Remember when I thought that K and J were married and that's why they were like that on the family tree? But since then it's become pretty obvious that they were all blood related.

Or maybe we do have proof they're actully twins. I can't remember. The calendar?

The calendar! Brilliant!

January 12, 2004:

Birthday of Jacques Snicket, as well as that of his sister.

Now, does this mean they are twins or that they coincidentally were born on the same date, several years apart?

Whoa... the date I that initiated this question is exactly a year after the date that answered it... auspicious.
