I happened upon this ad in a bus stop on my way home from work yesterday, and it was oddly disconcerting.

Okay, this is apparently an ad for a clothing line, and if you look closely at the tag in the t-shirt it has the brand logo on it, but the prominence of the blond blue-eyed child makes it look like it could equally be an ad for a genetic engineering company, or propaganda for a white supremacist eugenics program. Was this intentional? Was it ironic? Was it left over from something that was filming in town? What's going on here?

I have at least one Gildan t-shirt. They specialize in affordable snuggly cotton wear and enhancing the aryan race. All the right-hand sleeves are specially engineered to make it easier to salute Hitler, Our Nation's Great Leader.

I used to work in a clothing warehouse (blank t-shirts and things sold to screenprinters and embroidery shops) so I'm high familiar with the name Gildan. It's like Hanes or Fruit of the Loom to me. It never occured to be me that the ad could be anything else. Though the genetic engineering side highly amuses me. :)

White, blond, MALE child, no less. Someone in Gildan's ad department needs to get a clue.

And that steely stare! He's looking at me as if to say; "It's only a matter of time. Don't bother hiding, brunette."

You know, I can't really trust a company whose logo is "Better Value through Better Design" when they would publish something that creepy looking.

That slogan *is*.... sorta weird.

OK, it's creepy, but it's nothig compared to the ugliness of the tee-shirt. It would be funny if it actually exists with the boy on it.

Wow, worst add design I've seen in a long time. Mis-interpretations aside, it looks like a two-year old accidentaly created a cut layer on photoshop 0.o

And yeah, I can see the reading you're getting from it.
Oh dear *L*

If it wasn't for the spermy-looking-ness of the logo, I'd think you're just paranoid about blond-haired-blue-eyed people. But with that logo it's definitely disturbing. The kid looks so corn-fed Aryan because isn't that supposed to be... wholesome or cherubic or something? Although he's definitely alarmingly blond. And alarmingly blue-eyed, and pink-cheeked, and silky-haired, and well-fed, and sturdy-looking, and healthy and red-lipped and... yeah. I see what you mean. He does look like white supremacist gene engineering. I'm scared now.

roflmao - I would have never thought of that. Thanks. But a 'better design' would be a redhead. So, of course I didn't notice it.

Hmmm... well, I suppose Skinheads and various other Neo-Nazis need to make a living too. It is kind of strange though. Really, do you know ANYONE with natural blonde hair and blue eyes?

Umm ... half the population of Salt Lake's suburbia ...?

Upon the abduction of Elizabeth Smart, my sister and I darkly joked that they were unable to find her because she looked just like everyone else.
