Every so often, like a hot spring opening a hole in a parking lot in Yellowstone, a new source of intense coolness burbles to the dreary surface of the everyday world.

The Mysterious Geographic Explorations of
~ JASPER MORELLO ~

... A truly marvellous film from an Australian filmmaker (and his vital assistants, of course) which, aside from the original, appealing visuals and the well-constructed, entertaining story, has a main character with the best name since Lemony Snicket. Even if you can't get your hands on the DVD, the website is most pleasantly diverting. Tra-la! It appears there will be more such films in the future so perhaps the videographs will become more readily available to the antipodal inhabitants of this globe.

lol

the funny thing about this film is that he initially wanted to make one feature-length but the afc wouldn't give him the odd $2 million he might need. so they only gave him enough to make 30 minutes.

apparently what he's doing is nicking more money from the afc with the 'nominated for oscars' backing to make it a 'trilogy' but really when done, will actually just string them together to make one big long film.

ingenious i say lol.

can't wait.

I saw it at the Philadelphia Film Festival last spring, and it was amazing! Definitely my favourite piece from their animation show. I'm glad to know it's on DVD--I'd love to see it again.

Um, if any of you are really interested, I do have a couple of copies left on DVD, if you don't mind paying shipping/handling, etc.

Apparently (http://www.animationmagazine.net/article.php?article_id=5836) it is (or ... was?) available on iTunes. I tried looking it up to no success.

[comes limping back]

Oh I SEEEE ... it just isn't available in the Canadian iTunes listings. WELL. I shall eat lunch at Tim Hortons today to drown my sorrow in EXCELLENT DOUGHNUTTERY.

It's $1.99 in the 'Movies' section. That's almost free.

Well, your two daughters both have copies. Or I could try to remember to bring my copy when I'm in town for Thanksgiving...

Let me think. $1.99 to have it now, or wait and enjoy the pleasure of your company over Thanksgiving . . . .

No way! I've had that DVD since last spring! It is cool, everybody should own a copy (although I would recommend checking that your DVD player takes it first... mine doesn't. Pheh.)
