I heard that starlings were one of a number of species brought over to North America in the misguided attempt to have every kind of bird mentioned in the works of Shakespeare here - and that the starlings immediately bullied and chased away many of the native songbirds (that sounded much prettier). I do like their beady yellow eyes, though...

Yeah, I hang out with a bunch of ornithologists and we all freakin' hate starlings. Stupid invasive species.
