Pirating the Model

The last half hour of life drawing is usually given to long poses, which I should probably do but they're just so boring, and I don't need any more practise being really nitpicky about accuracy and rendering thank you very much. Tonight I hijacked the model and made her into pirates instead.
      
1. Pumpkin Spice, having to adapt her from a much curvier, stockier model, so some of the proportions are a bit weird.
2. Pumpkin again, trying to capture a look of contempt, struggling with the hat, then randomly deciding to make it a lifting pose which isn't reflected in the head and neck at all. Blah.
3. Matcha and her colouring book.

I'm loving these pirate sketches...cos, you know: pirates. But they're also fantastic, and I love the little stories you've come up with for all the characters!

Aw, they're so nice! I think most of us in first year left before the long poses.

We get bored easily LOL. Most of us were doodling by the end anyway.

Um ... use a good scanner? These were also pretty big drawings (about 6-10") and done in oil pencil on newsprint, which gives them a softer look than what I usually do in my sketchbook.

Pretty...using a model's pose for a very different animated character is a great exercise (Eric Goldberg had us do a lot of that with classic Disney characters - it was fun!)Is an oil pencil the same thing as a greasepencil?
