Went out a-drawin' at Le Starbucks tonight, with a fellow animation artist (one who actually draws, forsooth!) which might be responsible for so many pages – was it a genuine right-brained loss of the track of time, or was it a subconscious endurance contest? Perhaps we shall never know. I am not good at drawing people I know. Except for Ubiquitouspitt. But she looks like someone I'd draw anyway. And my main mode of reference is still photos.
Parkas are a great way to cheat.
Sneakers are designed by Satan, or at least someone who disregards all guidelines of anatomy and perspective.
Help; help; everyone I draw looks wholesome.
Why haven't I drawn more Coffee Pirates lately? Perhaps I shall try some in my attempt to fall asleep before 2 tonight.

Thanks for the drawings.

They make a nice slice of humanity- I like seeing all the different races, ages, body types. Makes you realize just how many people come into a coffee shop in a given time. Have you ever done something like this at an airport or train station? (I guess after 9/11 it would be harder, but it is so interesting to see all the little stories taking place of partings and greetings).

Every time I fly (because I can't get in otherwise), I try to draw the people sitting around in the boarding area, but 90% of them are in 'bus' poses, i.e. slouching slightly and looking down at their book/newspaper/laptop/gameboy or trying to sleep. Those that aren't are towing their rolly bags with a blank stare. Blaaah. When summer comes again I can go enjoy the perfomances of people and dogs at the park, but in the meantime...

Yup, things have changed since 9/11. I remember when friends and I used to hang around the airport just to watch people because there was such an aura of excitement and even some glamour to travel. I loved to watch the hellos and farewells. Now, I guess, air travel has become less fun with all the security and delays and such. Every once in a while, though, I see a juggler or someone playing an instrument.

Alas for the days when my parents took me to the local airport on a Sunday afternoon to watch planes take off and taxi in :/

Ah, yes! How true.

I am happy to report, though, that BWI airport (Baltimore/Washington International) still lets people do that, so feel free to come on down and enjoy! There is a free observation deck in the airport (you do not have to go through security to access it) where you can watch the planes. The airport is surrounded by managed forest, with lots of hiking and bike trails. Part of the park is an outdoor observation area where you can still park your car or bike and watch the planes come in. We get lots of hobbyists who camp out to take pictures of unique aircraft coming in, plus retired Air traffic controllers who somehow never seem to get it out of their blood and like to watch the planes come down.
