16 DAYS TO MAKING MONEY*!!!

Mmm, gotta love a tasty pre-order. Whenever I think about it, it makes me smile.

PEAS BE WITH YOU!
Everyone involved in that ROCKS. Go see their website!

*I am pretending the US does not get the book on Sept 18th because if I dwell on that I will go MAD at the injustice! Does being a member of the Commonwealth and having the Queen on our coins mean NOTHING to the publishing industry (besides getting the vastly superior covers)?! Don't you DARE tell me anything about the book until it comes out up here!

I'm going to order the U.S. version and pretend I have the British cover. (I dun't wanna pay shipping from the UK) Why are the U.S. covers different? Wouldn't it save money to pay just one artist?

Oh, and the U.S. paperback covers suck so bad.

Damn. The UK cover is stylish.

They're different companies; I suppose the US publisher just pays for the distribution rights but not the artwork. Also it probably has something to do with market research. How anyone can eschew Paul Kidby's work, I do NOT know, but one cannot deny that the American covers are ... er ... splashier.

My theory on the US covers:

I think what the US publishers are trying to do is position Discworld novels in the same vein as books by Florida satire writer Carl Hiaasen (not sure I spelled that right) Hiaasen books have these kind of clip arty super bright colored covers, so the Discworld ones do, too. Example is here: http://www.amazon.com/Nature-Girl-Carl-Hiaasen/dp/0446581755/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/104-8197759-3296718?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1190309524&sr=8-1

I am okay with the recent US covers overall- they do catch the eye- but I do MUCH prefer the Kidby art and wish the US publisher would be able to display it.

I did like the paperback Going Postal cover in the USA- I like to think it was a nice little take on the Kevin Costner movie "The Postman"

P.P.S. You could order it from Canada instead of the UK; we've got the same covers and shipping would (probably) be less, and more eco-friendly!
