First publicly released image from the New and Improved Rapunzel:

CLICK FOR TO MAKE BIGGAR!

This is a piece of concept art by Andy Harkness, not a final still from the movie, though of course they're going to try to make it look like that. There seems to be some confusion: Rapunzel is not going to be 2D. It is a 3D film. A very nice 3D film, but it is 3D, not 2D. No matter how much some people may plead and moan, the directors want it 3D and they're the ones in charge.

Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] floramir for pointing this out, and to [livejournal.com profile] aspectabund for posting the BIG one (and some little ones wot you can see in the comments)! Also to Yahoo Movies and the AP for distributing it. Booo to Aint-it-Cool for being slooooow. :P

I LOVE THIS MOVIE. LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT. AAAAAAAAAAAH.

Well, who knows how we would feel about it if it didn't feel 'normal' for spectacular musical animated releases to come flying out of nowhere. I took it totally for granted when I was growing up, and I have no idea what I'd be like if I didn't know all the Disney movies by heart. I'm sure it's probably because I'm so accustomed to those kinds of animated movies that I'm always dissatisfied to some degree with any non-musical animated features. I flat-out dislike 3D animation, and no amount of fun that they put in it has ever managed to make me enjoy it. I've been suffering from animated film withdrawal ever since Mulan (I agree that Mulan minus Eddy Murphy would be a welcome improvement). I was SO happy when I saw Enchanted that I was practically hyperventilating. I guess I'm so totally sentimental about this stuff that my judgment is completely impaired.

Hey, I looked up "Polar Bear King" and it's actually Norwegian, so no wonder they stuck to the original. It's worth checking out I'd say if you ever have time. But it's another thing I've watched as far back as I remember, so it's hard for me to look at it critically. The polar bear is a puppet of course, but it (the effects) are not as bad as the original BBC Narnia.

I was also thinking... "Princess Bride" is perfect! It's not technically a real fairytale. But it is like one, and it was done well.

I agree! Bring on the swashbuckling! I love it!
