I resized them down a leetle to save excess loading time (if you want full-res you can download your own trailer!) and fiddled with the contrast and saturation (though I may be thrown off by monitor calibration). There are a couple of image banks where you can find practically any screencap you want (this one is useful...) so I'm not going to waste waking hours clutter up my LJ with redundant images. I'm only putting up ones about which I have something to say that might be of interest, or which I particularly like but you might miss when watching the trailer at speed.

In absolutely no order whatsoever:

So pretty.

SO MANY HAPPY ANIMALS.

How do they make dirty stagnant water look so pretty?

The shadows are SO FREAKING AWESOME YOU GUYS.

The obligatory A113 reference (it was the classroom number for character animation at CalArts back in the day) ... what amuses me is not so much its presence but the fact that there is at least one vehicle in this movie that does NOT have A113 on it.

A few of the masks are caricatures of crew members, but they mostly got hidden when the layering got done.

A subtle thing, but extremely cool: look at the pattern on the curtain. Do you see it? Look harder.

Katie, this one is for you:

I solemnly swear on all that is holy that I had nothing to do with this. I was hoping against hope that they'd colour his hair dark so it would be plainer. I'm glad this shot was in the trailer because otherwise I'd have had to wait almost two years from when I originally saw it, when it comes out on DVD, to show you.

There are many awesome things about Dr Facilier but one of my favourites is how rewarding it is to stop-frame his scenes.

OH YEAH BABY. (In case you're wondering, the masking got a little messed up but it'll be fixed in the final film)

Going pic by pic...
1) Cool because it's just HINTING at all the awesome things in the room. And hey, is that a Djembe on the right?
2) PURTY COLORS! Also, kind of reminiscent of Little Mermaid.
3) Yeah dude, that water is beautiful, like a Monet painting. And the wagillator kinda looks like one of the dream-elephants in Dumbo - you know, the one who plays his snout as a trumpet?
4) Good old Cal Arts...
5) Oh TELL me that mask on the left with the glasses is someone you know. That guy (girl?) is cool.
6) Am I the only one who sees the pattern as a nude female torso? Looks more like it two pictures later.
7) Whaddya MEAN you had nothing to do with putting someone who is obviously Jacques Snicket in the crowd?! Did it ever occur to you that whoever drew that was checking out your fanart? 'Cause that's the only explanation *I* can think of...
8) What IS he holding?... A splatter of pink cake? A glob of Spin Art? A painting of a cycloptic rabbit with a pig snout?
9) AUGH OMIGOD THAT ONE IS YOURS!!! Squeeeee!!!!

I love you Tealin!! xoxoxo You're amazing.

1) It probably is a Djembe, those layout people luurrv their reference photos. Also there is a coffin which, okay, slightly less musicologically esoteric but the questions...!
5) Yup, it's one of the directors. They always get caricatured in their movies, and they've got at least two in this one. The other director is the long thin 'surfboard' mask with the moustache.
6) Wow Katie, you so craz– OMG I SEE IT! Heehee. We had a joke in layout class, because our teacher was also the life drawing teacher, that the way to get him to like any location design was to put a naked lady statue in it. Well!
7) I SWEAR, I don't think I was even working on the show when that scene was animated (or had just started). I'm pretty sure he was designed by Eric Goldberg, and if Mr Goldberg is browsing Snicket fanart online I would be very surprised... Regardless, I am convinced it is Jacques Snicket, whether he was intended to be or not. Look, he's not even taking a picture of Naveen! His camera is pointed at someone or something offscreen – he's clearly using the crowd as a means of photographing something undetected.
8) Um ... have you watched the trailer in full? It's a little pile of powder on a card.
