There it was, a faint flicker as Vimes glanced momentarily at some paperwork in front of him. Lotto! thought William.*

plimsoll - (n.) A rubber-soled cloth shoe; a sneaker.
I looked up this word last week to see if it actually existed and ever since then – especially today – I've been hearing it all over.

Freaky........

Wow....... that's really creepy....... that's exactly what happens to me every once and a while. I learn the meaning of a new word, and suddenly I start hearing it everywhere. I can't decide whether it's because I'm paying more attention or because of something else........ at least I know I'm not the only one!

I think I would have been paying more attention and picked up more 'plimsoll's after reading Going Postal, because the first time I ever encountered the word was in there; on the wizard Pelc's desk is volume 41 of synonyms for the word 'plimsoll.' I thought it was a made-up word, at the time, but didn't look it up until my roommate said it was real.
