The Truth Shall Make Ye Draw
Sep. 19th, 2005 12:41 pmI would like to express my admiration for the theraputic effects of a well-crafted story arc, especially combined with the marvellously cinematic prose of the Amazing Mr Pratchett. While this hasn't quite perked up my drawing skills, it has made me want to draw, which is 5/8 of the battle.

Otto returns to the Times HQ only to find it ... quite changed. (pg 272, UK, if you're interested)
And a sketch for a drawing of Sacharissa which I would like to work out a bit more, maybe going for a more dramatic angle and, of course, doing some reasearch into firearms and how they are held because, frankly, this is pathetic:

Date: 2005-09-19 08:26 pm (UTC)Of course this is from a person that thinks http://www.geocities.com/he_he_helupin/Moody.htm <that looks good. I'm actaully bad artist compared to other people.

Date: 2005-09-19 09:56 pm (UTC)Firearms are painful to draw, it's shameful to have lots of books about them and not knowing to draw a simple flintlock gun :P
I don't know if it's the coat or the boxes, but Otto looks bigger here (fatter is too rude to use ) but I like him lots.
And Sacharissa's face is awesome. Keep going!
drawing in school has boundaries, yet never ceases inspiration.
Date: 2005-09-19 10:18 pm (UTC)otto: arms too short, kinda. legs all wrong. love the face, its like he's found lost equipment. if Paul Kidby drew this, it would be a Christmas card!

Date: 2005-09-19 10:24 pm (UTC)And YES, the drawings are bad, but I wanted to draw them! They're bad enough I wouldn't have posted them had I known I could do better.

Date: 2005-09-19 11:25 pm (UTC)I think that your Otto is really good, myself. He's a character that keeps changing in my head, and usually Paul Kidby's work cements an image, but I don't like his Otto...he looks too insane. Yours is much closer to how I picture him.
And Sacharissa's expression is fantastic!

Date: 2005-09-20 01:34 am (UTC)ah on the gun hand, her palm should be rotated up/toward us just a little more. right now it's kinna angled gangsta style, which personally I would love to see a 19th century woman shoot that way, but somehow i don't think that's what you were going for XD.

Re: Gun: 19th Century Colt Pistols were too heavy to hold with one hand, especially by a chick (not to be siding with steriotypes, but we females generally have less upper body strength than guys). Nevertheless, she looks kick-arse!
good luck with Rita, BTW. She just waved Miami goodbye and by golly! I still have power!! :-D ...and Cabin Fever!

Date: 2005-09-21 07:37 pm (UTC)NEVERTHELESS.
Otto is splendidly whooshy with his amazing scarf and his expression is the best despite any alleged anatomy problems, and I would personally not ever want to face Sacharissa in a battle because she is terrifying me. (HER EYES! HER EYES!)
