Prompted by an email I recieved which asked me how I pictured Lupin in the fifth and sixth books, I have illustrated every scene in which he appears with TWO easy sketches!

Lupin Scene Type A: Exposing Relevant Background Information (okay, okay, I cheated and made the speech bubble in Photoshop, which technically I'm not supposed to do with this sketchbook thing, but I wanted it to look really artificial.)
Lupin Scene Type B: Comforting Distressed Person(s)

These drawings are ICKY. Bad. And I'd even gone to life drawing and everything.

Tonks, maybe?!

LOL! I haven't seen your Lupin in ages! Thanks for bringing him back! :D (He seems to have caffeine addictions... I can relate!)

Tonks, Harry, Molly, Sirius, Werewolfed Man In Hospital, who knows, maybe even random people on the street! Anyone!

I haven't drawn him for two years and it SHOWS.

What's that evil smile while he's comforting said person? It looks like he's behind it all.

I love your Lupin! Thought the second sketch doesn't make him look very sympathetic to the mystery person's plight. More mischievous!

mad?

"these drawings are ICKY. Bad."

You've just been handed the (bl)Oscar* for (1) best insane statement made on a personal blog, and (2) best deluded statement on a personal blog.

Oh, and you've also been certified "incredibly talented" by some obscure, anonymous selection committee as well.

* the (bl)Oscar looks and weighs as much as the real Oscar, except he's blue. Also spelt "blOgscar".

*dies* You have distilled the essence of Remus Lupin. That's fantastic.

I know you're not satisfied with the drawings, but I really like the way you draw Lupin -- it's very true to his character.

Would you mind if I recc'd this post? I wouldn't bother asking, but I have a readership somewhere in the vicinity of 1800 LJers, so I like to ask before they all come here and kill your bandwidth. :D

Hmm, well, it would be a test of Photobucket's supposedly 'unlimited' bandwidth ... |: ) heh heh heh.

Yeah, OK, sure, let's see what happens. But they're such bad drawings! I'd direct you to some of the ones on my site, but that definitely would have bandwidth issues...

You know what I'm always impressed with . . . the wrinkles in you clothes. Not that I'm not impressed with everything but I can not intuit the stupid wrinkles in a robe, so it always impresses me when you do it so well.

I love these, so funny. The first on especially, partially because it's more self explanatory than the other.

Your character design is also wonderful.
And as for imperfections, they're sketches! Since were were sketches suppossed to be perfect (only in the minds of the artists who make them I think).

ok, I'm imagining Harry here confessing Lupin that he loves Ginny and doesn't know how to tell her and Lupin listening but at the same time remembering James telling him EXACTLY the same thing about Lily. I know this doesn't actually happen in canon, but that's the impression the drawing gives me.

And the drawing is really cool, indeed if that's how you draw him after 2 years then if you hadn't stopped drawing him he would be close to perfection!

I'm not unhappy, I just know I can draw better. I'm not curled on the floor in a fetal ball of weeping misery – if I didn't notice problems with my drawings, I'd never improve. I've stagnated enough as it is, I don't want to be going backwards, and this drawing is indeed backwards. That's all.

Oh my gosh! Lupin! Much love goes to you, I can't draw a hand holding a cup worth crap.

Nobody seems to like to draw Lupin anymore, so I drew him. Of course, in his young years (the only time people seem to draw him).

Awesome, love, both of them. You are just as good as Makani!

Nobody seems to like to draw Lupin anymore...

That's because all he does is (a)expose relevant backgound information or (b)comfort people! Booo-ring!

As good as Makani, HAH! I think not. For she is the most rockin' artist of cool. And is steadily improving.

Yeah, Lupin was Mr Exposition, wasn't he? ;)

I like the raised hand and the way the robes hang off him, but find myself agreeing with [livejournal.com profile] diffigrl about the evil smile. >) And his nose is very Lupin-esque. It looks like it would really fit when he's morphing into a werewolf.

Personally I love seeing your sketches. I draw a lot, so when you point out an awkward bit, it's educational. Thanks for sharing your work with us.

You say you haven't drawn Lupin for TWO YEARS? It seems like only yesterday you were "hurtling through the last legs of college, or something like that, 'cause I can't remember your quote now" and were popping out Potter drawings like a machine. Sniff. Those were good times. :)

And this is probably completely pointless, but I really like that question mark. It's all ... font-y.

And I quite agree with you about Lupin's function in these last two books ( I haven't read the 6th yet, but I've been told about everything that happens in it :P ) I miss "PoA"-Lupin.

Oh!come on Tealin! You don't believe his role is just Exposing Relevant Background Information OR Comforting Distressed Person(s),do you?
you can't, because you know he has done alot more....he has been fighting bad guys,he has been spening time with our dear Greyback,he has been keeping an eye on harry,he has been escaping Tonks,(ummm...what more to say?!!)Aaaand, well,ok,comforting people has been a part of his role but we really did get very TINY points of backstory from him in book 5...and DO NOT call him "Booo-ring"!that really annoys teribble fan girls like me.And Tealin be fair, he is not that boring...Ok,now that vital fan girling matters are said...about these two drawings, they ARE NOT a real fall_back,you know...because you have not drawn him for a long time and taking that point in mind we can't say it's a fall back, and it is obvious that if you draw more Lupin you will certainly improve*;)*
And I think it is repeated at least a million times but I have to say it too, that the hands are Wonderful and the drapery is superb...!

From: [identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com
It's precisely because I know he's not boring1 that I am so annoyed by his limited role in the last two books. Sure, he's supposedly been doing all those things you list, but none of those are actually part of the story, they're just referred to by other characters, we don't see2 them happen. All we see is him exposing background information or comforting people. That is his only role in the actual narrative of the book. All his other adventures are in JKR's imagination and the domain of fanfic writers.

*cracking up* Oh, love it love it love it on the first one!

You only need one more drawing to cover Lupin in the sixth book as well - mopey "too old, too poor, too dangerous" Lupin. ;~)

With the second drawing, I'm getting vibes of "Well, I'm trying to be comforting, but I find your troubles quite amusing really."

And - that's got to be my favourite speech bubble ever.

Good

You should do more HP drawings, I love looking at them. I have noticed you have like no Harry and Sirius drawings together. Well, one when Harry's on top of him trying to kill him! lol. no seriously, you don't have to draw them, but i just wanted to bring it up.

I did one once, a long time ago, of Sirius giving Harry a noogie. Maybe I'll attempt it again.
