Yesterday's Sketchbook - Pretty self-explanatory.

Yesterday, on the bus, I saw someone reading A Short History of Progress. It made me smile.

I dunno, Pratchett's got some pretty good curry recipes in Nanny Ogg's cookbook.

So far they've all been incredibly boring, or tasted just like every other homemade curry I've ever had – which somehow, no matter what the recipe, manage to taste exactly the same, and unlike anything you'd get in a restaurant.

Have you ever tried using mango? It's got this sweetish-tangy twist in it and used in many east indian dishes.

Awww, that is such a cute picture! And if one hikes with garlic that can keep away undead critters, too! (And mosquitoes, I believe)

If it helps the International Vegetarian Union has some good curry recipes on their site. The following is one of my favorites.

I've never actually -made- curry before, so I've got no advice. I was just wondering what those little borble-type-things hanging off his pack were.

Uhhh... either onions or canteens. What's a borble?

:%| A word I made up to discribe the little things hanging all over the pack? :3 I duno.

But onions/canteens sounds good to me.

The only thing I know about curry is that my mother once made pumpkin soup that had curry in it. It was so foul she threw it out.

I'm not sure what that says about my mom's cooking skills...

My family is very heavily into the curry eating scene and we eat/make a few really lovely ones. Would you like me to email you the recipes? You don't have to make them, just browse if you'd like.

I think this might have made a better movie than "Atlantis" (those litle glowing "Borbles" around everyone's necks turn out to be magic onions! Like in "Holes"! That's what keeps the natives so young! And protects them from enemies ("Aaaa - why am I crying? I can't see!(sob!)")"Saving the world with a better curry recipe...")Ok, maybe that's not so funny after all...

Hmm, I think Atlantis would have been better with ...
a PLOT.

(ooh, cold)

I like the onion warfare.

(Did you hear that? Listen really closely...that was the shocked, wounded collective gasp of all 12 diehard Atlantis fans) Wow, you really are merciless! ;)

There are so many cool things about that movie (admittedly mostly in pre-production...) – it's just less than the sum of its parts. Le sigh.

Atlantis

You two (Twirlynoodle and Disneyboy) are hilarious discussing Atlantis. Thanks for giving me an extra thing to laugh about at work.

You know- they DID mention Iceland in there BTW. At work some of us more goofy people were trying to fool our coworkers with a fake press release about Iceland being offended at the way the movie portrayed at is being mistaken for Ireland.

Oh yeah - the BIG MYSTERY that has been plaguing mankind for centuries, finally solved - "we thought it translated to "Ireland", but ACTUALLY it was "Iceland"!" That was among the very lamest moments in what should have been an exciting, compelling, believable film (there were moments that were cool, but, as was mentioned, it turned out to be much less than the sum of its parts). But don't get me started!

Yes- I was having some trouble with that one, too especially if the countries were being called other names such as Ultima Thule for Iceland or Eire for Ireland.

EXACTLY - I assumed they wouldn't be letter-for-letter translations of the English names, and I'm not even all that knowledgeable!

From: [identity profile] disneyboy.livejournal.com
Exactly - maybe I'm too hard on the film because there was such great promise, and so many talented people contributed so much, worked so hard on it - my disappointment was equal to or greater than my great expectations. (Un otre sigh...)

My stance on preparing curry is this:

Eat lots of naan bread. Bread makes everything right.
