Finally!

Please forgive me for being so tardy with this; I've been catching up with real live people IN PERSON this week. Madness! These were going to go up early early this morning but I was out watching meteors and then someone was kind enough to spray pepper spray somewhere in my building, so it was 3am by the time we were allowed back in, and that meant bed.

So, at long last, have a medium-sized image dump!

I've been on a bit of a 'kick' the last couple days, helped a bit by getting to work an hour and a half before anyone with a key so I have a nice long time to sit and draw at the Indiana Jones Café.

Happy birthday, Harry! (for the next thirty-seven minutes... )

In honour of this festive occasion, I have drawn gag sketches of bad guys! )

The Books in Order from Favorite to Least Favorite:
1. Prisoner of Azkaban
2. Deathly Hallows
3. Philosopher’s Stone
4. Chamber of Secrets
5. Goblet of Fire
6. Half-Blood Prince
7. Order of the Phoenix

And a whole lot more! )
One small DH spoiler and another one cleverly cloaked

Spent some quality time with the scanner, and in Photoshop trying to make the scans look decent. (Curse you HP and your scanner/printer quality dichotomy!)

Random Stuff and the Half-Blood Prince )
Bathilda Bagshot from DH )

For more, check out [livejournal.com profile] tulanoodle, she's actually drawn some HP stuff! And gags!

Okay, I lied. There are pictures, even though the scanner here is disappointing, because I am a sketchblog junkie.

So far only one, though ... it's a gag sketch but it contains a very minor spoiler you encounter quite early in the book.

Dare to see? )

Chapters 22-30 )
Chapter 31 - THE END )

To be honest, from the fifth book on, I was expecting the series to sort of fizzle out. But I am immensely satisfied, and it's OK that it's over.

I've made notes for a few drawings (and more than a few gags) but you probably won't see any until I get back home where I have a better scanner and a computer with a tablet.

Chapters 17-21 )

The people who held the Harry Potter party last night have two impossibly cute little dogs. Unfortunately, now my book smells of DOG. I am not entirely sure how this happened. And several pages have been christened by condensation dripping off my cup of iced tea. Why can I never manage to keep a book pristine?

Chapters 1-6: So few chapters, so many crossovers... )
Chapters 7-10 )

Stay tuned if you're interested, I'll post more as I read.

I try to refrain from posting contents of email on here, but I need this intro.
Can you believe there's a leak for the 7th out there? Someone took photos of the actual book and posted them online. People, eh? You should rant about it in your LJ, once you look into it.

Well, correspondent, I will rant about it, but not in the way you would like.

If someone has come up to you and, without warning, yelled crucial book details in your ear, then yes, you are a victim. If you get a page of simple illustrations tacked to your bedroom door that are impossible not to instantly comprehend, you are a victim. But if you see a link that says 'Deathly Hallows pages here!' and click on it and read them, you are merely a victim of your lack of self-control.

People are going to post stuff online. That's what people do. Anyone who thinks humanity in general is naturally accommodating, compassionate, and level-headed has either been living under their bed all their life or completely unobservant of the world at large. The internet is rife with people who are a)maniacally obsessive, b)gleefully provocative, or c)both. What could possibly give anyone the impression that if someone had access to the object of so much frenzy they would not post it online? And what's the good of posting something online if you don't distribute the links to it? Surely the failure to do so would result in the loss of significant prestige as a fan/nerd/internet spy/provocateur/badass/etc.

So, you know these things are out there. If you are so afraid of having anything spoiled, take precautions. Don't Google search 'Harry Potter Deathly Hallows,' or for that matter, don't search for anything Potter at all because you don't know what might be in the blurb or even the link title. Don't hang around fan sites or forums. Don't go Potter browsing on YouTube.* The important thing I'm trying to say is that unless you have something implanted in your brain by which anything posted anywhere in the internet gets transferred directly to your head, at some point it will be up to you to click on something that will take you to where the spoilers are. You have to not click on that thing. If it takes this to make you realise you have no self-control, at least it was something that, in the long run, is fairly inconsequential, so be grateful. If you don't know how much self-control you have, err on the side of precaution and avoid circumstances where it may be tested. If you know you have no self-control, lock yourself in your room until you have finished the book, and as a side note: never look at a member of the opposite sex, walk near any vertical drops, go near a fast-food restaurant, pick up a video game, walk past a casino, look at a cigarette, even think about learning to drive, keep any toxic chemicals in your house, or come within two miles of alcohol, because you will probably end up dead, pregnant, or severely embarrassed in some way.

Discipline is a muscle and if you haven't exercised it enough to resist the temptation, then find a way not to be tempted. If you don't want spoilers, don't click the link, or don't put yourself in a situation where there may be a link to click. It's as simple as that. And don't get angry at the person who posted it if it was marked as having spoilers or was obvious that it would.**

As for me, I'm going to a party tonight with a few people who have not gotten the book yet, and I shall be excusing myself from the internet this weekend and until I finish it, because I will undoubtedly have plot points emailed to me by people asking for illustrations and details will be impossible to avoid once everyone else has read it.

And by the way, I posted this without having 'looked into it' because that is an excellent way of having things spoiled for me.

*I really hope someone has written a song containing all the DH spoilers and videotaped themselves singing it with their guitar and posted it on YouTube. I want to watch it when I finish the book.
**If someone got a hold of the book, do you seriously think they'd post photos of the most innocuous pages?

I had always planned to reread Half-Blood Prince... I just thought I'd manage to do it before the seventh book came out. Luckily I probably won't get a copy till Monday so I have all weekend, but I'm getting a bit of a head start because I have a long boring walk every day.

Is it just me, or did the 'stage direction' of the Spinners End scene make it sound like an archaic, heavily codified melodramatic performance? Narcissa should have laid the back of her hand on her forehead and swooned at some point.

Hey, got the picture working!

tealin: (Default)
Dear Warner Brothers,

Why oh why oh why oh why did you not hire Michael Goldthingy as writer from the start? Can he please stay?

Also I was very sad that you did not make Neville's dad Stephen Rea. Do I need to show you the picture again?

Yours truly,

Tealin

NOW with NEW STUFF!
Inconsequential spoilers if you've read the book, great big ones if you haven't:

10:30 show at the Graumann's Chinese – even if the movie is crap I will enjoy the historical glamourous theatre experience. Considering how little I think of the book they could do almost anything to the film and I might like it; I hope they manage to get people to act, at least. But if they drift in and out of character or lack screen presence, that'll just be canon! Haha. I'm a sourpuss today.

For maximum surreal hilarity, completely out of context:

Now, if you want the context (and better composition), go see Syd's post on the challenges of Snape/Draco scenes ... which somehow became brainstorming a Snape/Draco western, go fig. Fun times!

TASTY TRAILER TREAT RECIPE!
Try it at home and share with your friends!

Ingredients:

1 766-page (870-page in non-Metric countries) YA novel
2 c mild acid
4 tbsp cinematography in the style of 'philosophical action movie.'
2 2/3 c muscles
2 shirts, tight and slightly thin
5cc adrenaline
1 very large render farm

Extract pages from book. Set in a medium-sized pot, add acid, and bring to a boil. Simmer on 'low' for six months. Strain resulting sludge through a sieve, pressing as much soppy liquid out as possible. Place remaining fibre in a mixing bowl. Add cinematography and stir well, until evenly distributed. Mix muscles and shirts in a separate bowl, then fold into the first mixture. Turn this out onto a floured surface and knead into an attractive lump. Inject 5cc adrenaline using a baker's hypodermic needle until desired sense of urgency is achieved (increase dosage if necessary). Place in preheated 360° render farm until filters and CG have a glossy sheen. Serve hot to 60 million.

I should probably say I think the movie implied by this trailer looks like it's distilled everything interesting about the book into a visually appealing bite-sized package (even though Voldie's wearing a suit) and I will probably see it.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows cover released

Um ... okay ...

The artist seems to have captured Rupert Grint's gerning quite accurately. Aside from that ... well, I've never liked the British covers much. On the other hand, Mary GrandPre's is deliciously atmospheric and much nicer to look at, especially without text and stuff cluttering it up. I must warn you though, it is HYOOOOOOOJ. (Thanks [livejournal.com profile] spence137!)

... British Potter covers anyway, because Paul Kidby ROCKS and Making Money looks to be no exception! (thanks to [livejournal.com profile] thefordmustang for pointing that out so long ago which I never acknowledged, sorry!) I have little doubt the contents will also be superior.

In going through past sketchbooks, I discovered some things that I don't think I've posted in here ... Some of them weren't even on my hard drive. Maybe I didn't think they were good enough at the time, but my standards have dropped! Here you go!

Title of Seventh Harry Potter Book Released

If you want to go through the hoops on JKR's site to find out what it is, don't click on that link.

My reaction to the title announcement was to be vaguely reminded of something I'd heard or maybe seen, I don't remember, in which someone set the spooky mood my waggling his fingers around (or ... implying it, if it was on radio, which it probably was) and saying "ooooh, spooooooky." If anyone has any idea what I'm talking about ... I'll be surprised.
